I also think Bangkok is worth a day or two. It's honestly my favourite large city in the world. Great vibe, food, shopping, and culture. Plenty of places to explore - I'd recommend a boat tour down the old canals that run through the city. Also have a drink at one of the rooftop bars atop several of the skyscrapers in the city.

Anyway it's tough to go wrong in Thailand - it's such a great place and most Thais are really friendly. As with anywhere you go, there are always a few who are out to scam you so you need to be careful about that.
