That's quite an odd rumor, but I can see it happening. It'll be a sad day if that does happen. How the mighty Wings will have fallen after nearly 2 decades of dominance.
Is he a HOFer? He has the cup, hardware, and Hart nominations to back him up. I think he's as borderline as it gets (only due to his limited point totals), but I think he'll make it in eventually.

I can't believe that guy is 36. I remember when he was 27 and flying high. His game hasn't really diminished either. Wish he would go right to the end in the NHL - when him and Zetterberg both leave it's going to be the end of an era.
5 years in his prime ending in 2009 (the last year he got the Iginla standard of 30 goals) 29.6 goals per year and 87.2 pts.
over the last 4 seasons and making them into 3 complete seasons by .... taking his 26 game this year and making his injury season of 10-11 whole ... 56+26 games he has averaged 25.6 goal and 74 pts..... still great numbers but a fall off of 4 goals and 10 pts.
This year even Babcock has identified that the Detroit forwards are having to work a lot harder and come back into their own zone rather than head up the ice on offence as soon as Lidstrom got close to the puck.
Nightly abuse in the Eastern Conference? Those big bruisers in Ottawa, Montreal, Buffalo, the Isle, the Devils, the Pens, the Caps, the Hurricanes, the Panthers, Lightning? Um ok.
So, which are the physical teams in Western then? There are none. At least Eastern has Boston!
I think people are signing the Wings death certificate a little early. This year may not go the way they want it, but they are still a team that is one solid D man away from being a contender again.
Brunner is looking like hes prime to join the likes of Datsyuk and Zetterberg. As long as Howard can put up solid numbers, and like I said they find a stalwart on the blue line (via trades, free agency etc) they will be fine.
There's to many smart people in that organization. They wont let the Wings dive very far. Lets not forget, they probably have a lot of scouted talent waiting in the "wings". Maybe we'll be seeing a new generation of Detroit soon.
Either way, you can bet your ass they are better prepared to handle one bad season than most teams are.
That red wings team sure was stacked. Yzerman, Hasek, Shanahan, Hull, Chelios, Lidstrom, rookie Datsyuk and among others.
That team was ridiculous.... as you mentioned
Yzerman, Shannahan, Hull, Chelios, Lidstrom, Datsyuk and Hasek, who you forgot was Federov, Robitaille, Larionov, Draper, Holmstrom, Maltby, and for some grit McCarty, and a young Avery. and Legace as a back up. lol
What a player. The Wings sure had a knack for picking these late-round hidden gems. Are any of their old scouts out of a job? We should be hiring those guys...
