I do know that when I inserted my Telus micro SIM into the Virgin locked phone, the "No SIM" message also came up. Having this same message for both of these SIM cards that I tried (trimmed Bell one and factory-made Telus one) is what led me to believe that I was having an unlocking/carrier problem and not simply a wrong sized SIM card problem as the Virgin tech guy suggested.

Not that I'm calling him a liar...just bad at his job.
Out of curiosity- I assume you saw the phone functioning with a Virgin Sim card?

EDIT: Even if it was one you purchased, what does it matter if you are still under contract? Unlocking the phone even if you bought it from them and are still under contract doesn't invalidate your contract. Do they do it to stop people from jumping ship anyway and forcing their contract to go to collections or something?

Is the iPhone updated to the newest OS?
Yeah I read that thread as I was in the process of buying, but I don't know what to say other than it doesn't work for me. See the last post and somebody says it seems that it works for some but not all.

The phone is updated to the latest OS, has been wiped and restored, tried in DFU mode, and still no dice.

And you saw the phone working with a virgin mobile sim?

Edit: I just confirmed with a friend who has a Bell locked iPhone that they use it on Virgin, and going to find out if I have any friends with Virgin iPhones :P

Yes it was fully functional with a Vrigin SIM. Possibly you can use a Bell locked phone with a Virgin SIM, but not vice-versa. Or possibly in some cases. Or possibly I'm sick of this whole fiasco and I'm going to sell it asap and then buy a Bell locked phone!

But I appreciate all the feedback. Gotta love CP.

So you haven't tried a legit Bell sim? It says you tried a Telus sim which doesn't work(no surprise) and a trimmed Bell, have you gone to the bell store and requested a bell micro sim?

I would see if you can get a vigin sim from someone just to get past the activation issue
