Looking for some players for Friday night shinny (July 12th). 11:15pm at the Crowchild Twin. $11.

Let me know if you can make it. I would say its an intermediate level shinny.

Sorry not to derail the current convo but to update on what we were originally talking about. I came up with an idea that solved a problem for us in OKC. I found 20 guys who wanted to play a regular pickup ( 845 pm Wed night). I found a ref , I found a score keeper, and I found 2 goalies who would commit or give me a few days notice if they couldn't make it. I contacted the rink and bought a 10 week block of ice. I essentially made my own league (Gladiator Hockey League). I also came out of my pocket a few hundred bucks and bout 13 Light Jerseys with our league logo and 13 dark ones) I charge 135 bucks a player for 10 games. This gives me enough to pay a ref /scorekeeper and the ice. with maybe 60 bucks leftover. If someone can't play I find a sub to fill in and charge them 15 bucks ( bc if I charged them 10, players would not pay 135 they would just try to sub every game for 100 bucks/10 games). The 15 bucks goes to cover my cost of the jerseys. I even take the jerseys home and clean them every week.

The way I set up the teams is choose 4 captains. They draft 4 players a piece and make four X 5 man teams. Then each week two of the 5 man teams play the other two. So week 1 team A and B play C and D. Week 2 team A and C play B and D. Its always 10 on 10 and everyone enjoyed it. We are halfway through our 2nd ten week season. If I was staying in Oklahoma my goal was to double the size so there would be more team and even goalie rotations.

I'm not sure if I could set something up like this in Calgary since every is so spread out but I'd try if we could get enough interest. However I am guessing ice time in the winter is way harder to come by in Calgary than in Oklahoma.

Yeah, getting large blocks of ice time will be a huge hurdle here in Calgary. Hey, I heard 12am at Acadia on Thursday nights is available! And yes that's an actual ice time, one of my rec hockey teams in NCHL use to play it quite often.
