Seems too high, but I'm under the assumption that's reality of BC insurance.

I thought B.C's insurance was cheaper compared to Alberta?

2009 Hyundai Sante Fe GLS 6 cyl $696

2007 Toyota 4Runner Ltd V8 $822

$2 million PLPD and all collision and comprehensive except for windshield glass

$500 deductible, grand touring solution which gives extra benefits for loss of use of vehicle, waiving of part of deductible for certain accidents, etc.

I used to own a 2002 Honda CRV and it cost more to insure than my brand new Sante Fe. I asked why?
They gave a couple of explanations.

First, they said it depends on how your vehicle is rated for safety and reliablity.

They also said that Honda and Toyota parts are the highest priced of any vehicles.

I can vouch for that. I had some vandalism on my CRV one time. Someone had walked by and whacked my side rear view mirror. It cost $300 just for the piece of glass....not the whole mirror unit, just the glass. Bloody well crazy price for a small part.

We get our insurance through Meloche/Monnex.

We are at 900 full coverage on my wife's Dodge Avenger (15000kms a year) with full coverage and 440 liability on our Chev Aveo in my name. Another $500 for our home insurance.

I was really surprised how much our house insurance dropped when we moved into a new build from an older home in a different community. It got chopped in half with the same company.

Used kanetix to get the best deal possible.

Anyone else in their mid to late twenties like me and remember the insanity of car insurance for young males before the insurance reforms (early 2000's)? I can't believe it was even legal for them to gouge us that badly.

My buddy bought a used Cavalier for $5000 and ended up paying $4500 a year insurance.

I got offered a Cavelier for a very good deal (9k, almost new), and was so excited to buy it. A quote of $6000 insurance killed that dream.

I finally found an older Altima and ended up paying $4800 a year. When the insurance reform came into effect I couldn't believe it. I got bumped down to $1900 a year, and it was like winning the lottery. Seriously.

2004 Chevy Cavalier, liability coverage, 26 years old

$832/year.

I honestly can't even fathom some of the rates being posted in this thread. $400 a month for a Scion xB? That's completely outrageous and just seems like such a waste.

2008 Jetta - full coverage 10 years driving. The odd ticket and no claims. 1100 a year. I know everyone has had different experiences but I really found an insurance broker made a world of difference for me when I was younger. Learned a lot from them, still use them. They shop around for me every year, looking for the best coverage and price every time. They seem to find a way to beat the proffessional discount I receive through TD.

A little word of caution, make sure your broker is independent. Brokerlink is owned by Intact Insurance. So I doubt they are truely independent.

100% agree!

I meant to say I have had great experiences with independent brokers. The business I deal with is 3 brokers in an office from a rural town. Their family has been doing it for fifty years.

Yup. I remember worriedly trying to find any insurance company to insure me in 1997. I had had one accident and that killed my chances. I finally found an insurer in Chinatown (by literally going through the phone book one company at a time) who finally agreed to insure me for $4000/year. I had to take it since I needed a car for work.

Then I discovered Meloche Monnex which, because I was a University grad, gave me a discounted rate, plus had a one accident forgiveness policy which brought my rate down to around $1000. Such relief! I can still feel that creeping feeling of desperation when it seemed I couldn't even get insurance, let alone afford it.

Since this thread is on the go, I won't bump the older one that I remember from awhile back.

I just moved back to Calgary from Winnipeg and am wondering who the best to call for insurance is?

I certainly can't wait until I move back to Alberta. Living in Ontario, one of the most expensive places for insurance in Canada.

I'm paying close to $3000/year on a 2004 WRX, full coverage, $1 Mil liability, $1000 deductible.

24, no accidents, 2 tickets.

Numbers are approximate:

$1040 / full coverage / 2012 GMC Sierra (low deductible)
$1000 / full coverage / 2000 Porsche 911 (ridiculously high deductible) (reduced coverage for 4 months of the year)

TD Meloche Monnex. No tickets/accidents.

I've found slightly cheaper, but I've been happy with them (outside of bike insurance, so I go thru Jevco for that).

$1600/year for full coverage on a 2009 BMW 3 Series. With 4 speeding tickets in the 2 years prior to our last renewal. 2 of the tickets will be "clear" next time we renew so hopefully it'll be a bit cheaper.
