In an educated society that understands both sides (in a non-existant vaccuum so to speak) they are both probably wrong,
That's true and interesting. If such a society did exist what would they consider evil? Since is doesn't, is there truly evil in the world? Or is evil just a term created by man to describe a feeling? I suppose that is where some people would insert religion into the discussion.

I think evil is indeed a word created to describe a feeling of uneasiness, apprehension or fear. Man has always needed to understand hsi surroundings and the actions of others. I believe that this word, the Devil sans "d", is just a crutch to explain an internal reaction or repulsion. Why did that guy slaughter that poor sould and why did he cut his head off for all to see? He must have been consumed by evil!"
In a similar vein, you could say the same about "God" and the feeling of awe and wonderment. "Who made liquid soap and why? God did it! No mere mortal could have concieved of such a wonderous substance!"
Man is a strange animal that we will never be able to figure out. Just when we think we get to understand the reactions we have in society, we get tossed a curve ball and find out that the societal norm has shifted, making most of what we learned obsolete and in need of major rethinking.
