I ate a cockroach in Thailand. It was fried in garlic butter. Pretty tasty. Mealworms and silk worms are good too.

Is this not an individual who has contributed to human evolution by self-selecting himself out of the gene pool via death due to his own (unnecessarily foolish) actions?

Why wouldn't he just purchase a python? I'm sure they're not that expensive. This is just dumb.

Thats all well and good and all, but competitive eating on its own is ridiculous now they just made it even more so.

Garlic butter is like bacon, it can make anything eadible. lol

Can't see how eating a few bugs could kill ya, probably a heart attack from stress or something. Lets see some pics, guy was probably pushing 300lbs and living on a What-a-burger diet.

Sorry, but you don't get any points for eating cockroaches if you had to fry them in garlic butter to down them. You could fry liver and brussel sprouts in garlic butter and people would even find that tolerable.

I also ate raw buffalo liver covered in chili powder, if that counts. I don't think it counts though.

Not really, no. Darwin awards are for when you can look at a death and go "wow, why did he do that? He had to have known there was a chance of death". Things where you're putting yourself in danger and then die.

People eat cockroaches and other bugs all the time, and nothing happens. In fact they're actually good for you. This seemed more like a one off. To me, it would be like calling the lady who was killed by the rock through her windsheild a Darwin award candidate for driving down a highway. Sometimes freak deaths just happen.

The woman driving down the highway wasn't killed due to her foolish actions, the cockroach eater's death is the exact definition of a Darwin Award. There is no debate.

"In the spirit of Charles Darwin, the Darwin Awards commemorate individuals who protect our gene pool by making the ultimate sacrifice of their own lives. Darwin Award winners eliminate themselves in an extraordinarily idiotic manner, thereby improving our species' chances of long-term survival."
