Didn't the article say that he attacked the dad with a weapon? You don't come at someone who is holding a gun with innocent intentions.

If the dad isn't getting charged for killing the guy, then it must have been pretty obvious that the lethal force was warranted in that situation. What innocent troublemaker who was just "raiding the liquor cabinet" attacks someone who has a gun pointed at them?

I dunno, in my mind if a guy is willing to take a run at someone with a gun, it's safe to assume the worst.

No - it said the son 'went at him' with a shiny object. That could've been anything, cellphone, wallet chain, can of beer, etc. True it could've also been a weapon. I may have reacted in the same way as this kids Dad did, I don't know.

But comparing a burglirizing kid to James Holmes is a little over the top. And if the kid had demons, that's unfortunate, but I still feel for his Dad. That's not a position I would wish on anyone.

Fair enough, It was a hyperbole.
I don't envy the dad position in any way, shape or form.

I'm just having a hard time feeling sorry for him. I'm sure he is going through hell right now though.

The internet, where death is justified if you commit any crime no matter how small, mouth off a police officer or make a mistake.

You have a hard time feeling sorry for someone who is going through hell just because you suspect that he could have done a better job as a parent?

The woman, who was alone in the house, believed someone was breaking in and called her brother, Jeffrey Giuliano, who lives next door. He grabbed a gun, went outside, confronted someone wearing a black ski mask and black clothing and fired when the person went at him with a shiny weapon in his hand, police said.
The woman who called the dad was the dad's sister, she lived next door. So the aunt calls the dad, who finds a masked man trying to break in to his sister's house and shoots him in self defence. And then they find out that it was his son, this is very effed up. That family is going to be messed up.

I'd be locking the bedroom door, calling the cops and then hunker down with a gun. If dood decided he was going to bust through the locked door, all bets are off. I'm lighting that guy up. Have at my property, fine, but the second you bust into a room that has me and the one I love, I'm defending both.
No.

The woman called the father because she heard someone breaking in to her house. He rushed over there to defend HER.

Has nothing to do with person property. If you plan to break into someone's house when they are home, that is a direct assault against them and should be treated as such. For all we know that Son was not after personal property, but the woman herself.

This sounds like an excellent story line for an episode of Breaking Bad.

It's just THAT messed up.

I read that the neighbor was his aunt, his dad's sister. There must be some history to this story. Or could it have been a stupid prank gone horribly wrong?

What are they putting in the Red Bull that the teeny-boppers are drinking that is turning them into criminals against their own family members? Just a week ago two boys murdered a 78 year old Great Grandmother for pizza money. One of the murderers being the Great Grandson of the victim. If I had a child that robbed and killed another member of the family, I'd still love him as my child, but I wouldn't want him released from prison anytime soon.
