I would hope not, and doubt that with 31% of the vote that they have enough of a mandate to consider that. Its a pretty weak bargaining position in that respect.

When 2 of the 3 main parties wanting to eventually separate from Canada, it's going to be an issue nor matter how many times it is mentioned.

Would you call the CAQ separtist? It certainly isn't their raison d'etre like the PQ, but Legault at least would be willing to put a moratorium on a referenda for a while. They don't really seem to care one way or the other.

That will depend on how Marois' bigotry resonates with the populace at large.

Sepeartion isn't happening. Marois is a total hack and will be exposed as such in short order. It's the same problem for the PQ as the Wildrose here: Too much rural support, not enough urban. Question is can the NDP sneak in quick enough to make a difference.

This is going to be a complete disaster. Entertaining yes, but a train wreck.

The CAQ is kind of like the old ADQ in that it's kind of evasive on the sovereignty issue. They toe the nationalist line that every party in Quebec holds, but they also want a 10 year moratorium on referendums and also allow schools to offer intensive English as a second language classes at grade 5.

Nah let's be realistic, they got other problems like students, corruption and the economy.

There can't really be a discussion when the party wins 31% of the vote.

One has to be at least in the 45% popular vote range in an election (like in the 1994 provincial elections where the PQ got 77 seats) to have this discussion.

As mentioned above, The CAQ are hardly separatists.. they're somewhere in the middle. They don't want the sovereignty issue to be brought up for at least 10 years.

Greece has the good sense to realize that they are the ones benefitting from being part of the EU, and voted accordingly in their election.

People should keep their heads down "at" the PQ victory party. Apparently a man yelled in french "The English are rising!", shot two people and tried to burn the building down.

Quebec wouldnt stand a chance without the rest of Canada. Alberta alone keeps them afloat. If they want out then lets kick them out.

I still think they're separatists at heart, but they will only push it if they feel it's to the net benefit of Quebeckers. Right now they are making so much money of the rest of Canada they can tuck away the sovereignty issue for 10 years.

PQ - 54
PLQ - 50
CAQ - 19
QS - 2

That's an incredibly narrow margin there.

How much would you bet?

The PQ only got 31% of the vote.... and many, many people voted PQ as a means of getting rid of Charest, not because they believe in separation. The only thing the separatists have going for them is this shooting that they can use to fan the flames.

It is a dangerous game they are playing. If indeed many, many people voted PQ as a means of getting rid of Charest, voting for a party that has separation as it's core policy, might not have been in their best interest - long-term.
