I ran the Tour De Airdrie one fine morning in a howling blizzard, with Deerfoot trail down to 60 kmh on the way there, a 20 below zero windchill throughout the race, water stations frozen solid and everyone having to wade through snowdrifts. A few hundred still took the trouble to run and a sizeable chunk, I suspect, took advantage of the "double loop" aspect of the race to shorten the distance by about one-third and end their misery early.

I thought that would be the worst weather race I would run in my life but it was eclipsed by a long shot by Footstock Half in Cochrane last year.

Generally I find in weather anywhere between +12 to - 12 ish I run fantastic. Anything colder and I'm wearing too much or anything above plus +15ish and I'm starting to feel warmer if I'm doing a hard run. I don't think the weather in Calgary right now is such that you'd have performance issues unless you're not properly dressed. Granted if you're working at a certain heart rate even in shorts and a long sleeve shirt, maybe a toque and gloves you might be okay in this weather. I'd wonder about your knees aching a bit in the cold. But properly dressed and you should be fine.

I've been running all winter, I'm just wondering if my occasional lower leg aches have to do with wearing shorts in the cold. Here's to hoping!

Get yourself some spandex for the winter . . . . just make sure no one photographs you.

Reviving an old thread but one that is probably timely as the 2013 running season is upon us.

I'll pump the Millarville "Run To The Farmers' Market" Half Marathon, set for 7:30 a.m., June 15, 2013.

All information and registration links are at www.millarvillehalfmarathon.com A gallery and Go-Pro video of the course is there too.

This is a beautiful, rare, 21.1 km, point-to-point run from Oilfields Arena in Black Diamond, onto the Turner Valley Golf Course Road and down into Turner Valley itself, then the urban pathway back towards Black Diamond before taking Racetrack Road to finish at the Millarville Farmers' Market as it opens for its 31st season.

Registration totals have already passed 2012 levels. Anticipating about 500-600 in the second year of this race.

If you're an elite runner, there is about $2,300 in cash prizes available in an expanded prize pool. Course records are 1:14 for men and 1:21 for women. We anticipate a fast field again this year.

There is a two-person relay this year.

Unique, hand-made, clay-fired finishers medal fashioned by a Farmers' Market vendor. Big and heavy. Looks like a cookie.

Great reviews of the course last year . . . . "beautiful, strategic, scenic and challenging" were all used to describe it.

Two race package pickup days in Calgary, one downtown, one in the south. And then one at Millarville Racetrack and limited pickup at the start line.

Shuttle bus service between Millarville Racetrack pre and post race.

The race has three charity affililiations in 2013, Rowan House, the emergency women's shelter in High River, Priddis Fire Department and Sheep River Health Trust in Okotoks. They're all looking for runners/walkers to fundraise for them. Net proceeds from the event itself benefit the non-profit Millarville Racing & Agricultural Society.

Great morning for running, shopping, food and music!!!

Love to see some Calgary Puckers out.

Just the Mothers Day 10k planned for me so far this year.

I did the Las Vegas marathon last year, and I think I might do another winter-ish marathon somewhere warm.

I am doing a 32K practice run (Running Room/YMCA Kanata to Bank Fun Run) on Sunday. It's to get people ready for Ottawa Race Weekend, but for me it's a warm up for my first ever full marathon I am running on the 19th. I've run 6 half marathons and am hankering to get this full under my belt.
