Some very good suggestions in this thread. A few thoughts of my own, the Coolermaster Hyper 212 is a GREAT HSF for the money, unbelievable actually. You can do better, but with serious diminishing returns. Don't overpay for the processor, an i5 is enough for most people, unless you are pushing ultra high resolutions/multiple monitors.

Hard drives right now are silly expensive, all I can suggest is buying a low capacity unit and wait for the supply to go back to normal. AMD is releasing a new generation of video cards around January 8, 2012, so it may not be a bad idea to wait and see how they pan out. If nothing else, the launch should lower the price of existing models. Definitely don't waste your money on a sound card.

For price, future upgrade ability, over clocking and getting exactly what you want in a gaming computer, Dell can't compete.

and than after extolling Dell, you added this when you seemed to realize how good Memory Express is.

haha. Well I wouldn't use the word extolling. I guess I have only ever used Dell and because for 7 years it hasn't given me trouble, I recommended it.
But anyways, I will be making a trip to Memory Express...
I don't mean to hijack this thread, but I also need a gaming laptop, and if I go with M.Express, what is your (or anyone else') experience with them? Reliable? Good service?
I'll go to their store here in Edmonton after my univ. exams are done

Laptops are a different ball of wax from desktop gaming computers. I have no advice for a laptop. A desktop for the same price should be much better for gaming.

I can't comment on Edmonton's staff Kipperriffic but the SE location here in Calgary is very very good.

Yes there has been and I'm getting more and more confident that I can walk into Memory Express and come out with a a very good setup. Even if it takes multiple trips to take advantage of sales/launches.

Really? I'm not sure you want me to do that.

First you suggest a laptop. Always a bad choice for gaming value.

Then you suggest a Dell desktop. I like Dell. They often have great deals on accessories. But for a gaming PC? Nah. Better to pick your own parts, know how to fit everything together and what headroom you have. Plus being able to mix and match means you get best value on all your parts.

Then you say that overclocking is unnecessary and relate it to graphics card cooling (typically GPU overclocking is done with the stock heatsink). The aftermarket heatsinks we're talking about are for CPUs. Not to mention putting an aftermarket heatsink on a laptop GPU would be uber-nuts. But overclocking is one of the best (and often best value) ways to improve your PCs performance.

Then you say that you've never heard of MemEx in edit #2, essentially admitting that you didn't really know what you were talking about and didn't really read the thread either.

So first I was like
Then I was like
Then I was like

Add those together and you pretty much get

Reading your post it went from baffling to even more baffling to one of the funniest things I've ever read here.

So

i5 2500K is very overclock-able. In fact my mom could do it.

So I can follow a step by step internet guide and can't go wrong? Or should I just ask Memory Express to do it as part of the build?
