I wish there were no political parties to begin with.

I like the idea of everyone running as independents and having them elect a leader from amongst themselves but I fear it would result in a large number of crazy people getting elected at the start and as things settled in there would be a huge advantage for the incumbent resulting in something similar to Calgary mayors where the incumbent never seems to lose.
Most parties screen their candidates and a few crazy people still seem to slip in, I think smaller ridings would be havens for crazy people and single issue candidates who wouldn't go through the same screening that a party provides.

I wonder how many years it'll take them to come up with a different name than 'Liberal' considering Alberta won't ever elect a 'Liberal' government again.

I just don't believe that. The reality is that Liberals win seats and Lawrence Decore nearly won as a Liberal. Most Liberals I know aren't willing to put in the time and energy it takes to win though. You can't wait until the writ is dropped before you start campaigning; if you really want to be an MLA then you should be out campaigning and working in the community for at least two years.

This is exactly why the Alberta Party is so amusing to me. Its built on the premise that to win provincially is the same as winning municipally. Its a whole different ballgame where preparation and organization are rewarded.

Yes! But that was auto-complete failing again.
