That's a much more interesting team skill wise than last year.
Byron had 53 points in 67 games last year. I find it hard to believe he wouldn't be ahead of a rookie (Horak) and a guy who barely played in his rookie season due to injury (Wahl.) I think you can pencil Byron in as a 1st liner in the AHL if he doesn't make Calgary. He had more points by far than anybody on the Heat last year.

All I know is that if the Heat's top players play the way we all know they can, Troy Ward is going to have one hell of a time slotting these players in the lineup and giving them relatively equal/fair minutes.

Just a few notes from last season. When MacMillan, Grantham, and Patterson were on a line together they were balls to the wall. They hit everything that moved. Also, Bouma, Nemisz, and Patterson worked well together as well. That line was basically the reason Nemisz and Bouma got called up at the end of the season.

Anyways, however the lines are setup next season I'm very excited about next season. I can guarantee we won't be last in the Goals For column this season.

I hope that CBC puts on a few more Heat games. Would be nice to watch the team progress this year.

I just started dropping guys in where I had "???"s left. Didn't really consider many line combinations outside of Horak and Howse.

I think it would be genius to bring up Bartschi for a 9 game try out.

It would have to be a Flames tryout, not a Heat tryout because of the CHL rules.

They could send him to the heat on a conditioning stint if they really want, but otherwise, he'd have to play in the NHL or CHL.

I could see it like this:

F1 Tanguay - Langkow - Iginla
F2 Glencross - Jokinen - Moss
F3 Hagman - Backlund - Bourque
F4 Kostopoulos - Stajan - Jackman
Fx Ivanans

D1 Giordano - Bouwmeester
D2 Babchuk - Carson
D3 Sarich - Butler
Dx Mikkelson

G Kiprusoff - Karlsson

--------------------------------------

F1 Bouma - Byron - Nemisz
F2 Walter - Wahl - Rheault
F3 Howse - Horak - Cameron
F4 Bancks - Patterson - Laing
Fx Desbiens, Meyer, Severyn, MacMillan, Grantham

D1 Breen - Brodie
D2 Negrin - Wilson
D3 Seabrook - Piskula
Dx ?

G Irving - Ortio

Plus Baertschi on a 9-game-basis in the NHL if he earns it. There's still a spot open on the NHL team, but guys like Nemisz, Brodie or Bouma would profit more from full-time AHL minutes than sitting in the press box.

Bouma is likely to be Bottom 6 in Abbotsford if he goes there. Great heart, but he doesn't have the hands to be a scorer.

The top 2 defense will be Wilson and Smith (or if one of them makes the Flames Mikkleson). Mikkleson did not make it through waivers last year.

Things just got a lot harder for Brodie and Negrin and Breen These guys (Wilson and Smith) have put up great numbers at the AHL level (48 and 54pts last year) and have been NHL call ups.

They have been signed to make Abbottsford an AHL contender.

Last year the Heat had 7 AHL rookies that played 55 or more games plus Carter Bancks with 29 games.

This year they will have Howse, Horak and Ortio as rookies.

That will make a huge difference.

I, for one, am going to miss Cam Cunning. Although he was never a real NHL prospect he still was fun to watch night in, night out. All heart and could score the odd goal. Hope he catches on with a team in the A or in Europe.

devo22: I could see Meyer fighting his way into one of your lines!

You basically have to put Howse and Horak on a line together.

Bouma-Byron-Nemisz
Meyer-Wahl-Cameron
MacMillan-Horak-Howse
Grantham-Patterson

Breen-Brodie
Negrin-Piskula
?-Seabrook

Walter? Bancks? I think you can pencil both those guys in there considering that Walter is a good scorer at the AHL level and the Flames staff loves Bancks... also Seabrook has been traded.

Sounds like Patterson is a real key player for any line.

I'm definitely going to try and make some Heat games this year. It's a long drive out there, but if the team is going to be a contender and score some goals, it's going to be worth it.

Sadly, I never had the motivation last year, outside of seeing Brodie.
