I like the Star Wars Prequils. But if I buy into a story it doesn't matter how bad the acting or writing are. I like a good story, when someone tells me a story I generally enjoy it. When I watch a story in movie form I want a good story, I don't want a Freddy Prince "Down to You" it was annoying and watching that in theatres I found myself staring at the ceiling fan.

The Star Wars prequils give me information and detail about a story I love, for that reason I love them. It's like your grandfather telling you a great story, then having someone else fill in what happened first. It might not be as good, but you appreicate it nonetheless, atleast I do. I'll still be captivated as I'm interested in the story. I don't look at a trilogy and say "ok now entertain me in new ways" for every movie, I look at it and say "I like the first story, add to it please" and it has to be done HORRIBLY for me to not enjoy it. Star Wars prequils gives a ton of information about the Republic, Yoda, Windou, Obie-Wan, etc that it's worth watching. Was Jar-Jar annoying? Yes, but he wasn't the whole movie, he was merely there to get you from point A to point B in the story, he wasn't the story itself.

The first two Star Wars prequels are perhaps the most abhorrent moments in film history.

At least George Lucas is laughing all the way to the bank at the cost to a bunch of suckers.

Definitely LotR. I always find myself liking the first and third movies in trilogies, but disliking the second: definitely true of LotR, Back to the Future, Alien, Star Wars, Indiana Jones...

Hey, I'm amazed nobody mentioned Terminator. That was an awesome trilogy, in part because they resisted the urge to pump out all the films in a row.

As much as he is insanely rich off of them, Lucas does care about his films... to the point of doing what he wants based on HIS story. Let's remember folks it's his story, he tells it the way he feels it should be told whether or not some people hate it.

Now, as a director I am not a big fan. I've actually read that Lucas got Spielberg to do a few scenes in Episode III.

I agree.

I'm pretty tolerant of bad movies, but I hate Eps I & II.

The difference between the two trilogies can be summed up by comparing the Battle of Hoth at the beginning of Empire and the Gungan battle at the end of Episode 1. One is a great action movie scene, the other is a weak children's cartoon.

Eps I & II are hugely wasted opportunities.

So HIS story involves an 8 minute long ad for the pod race video game in episode 1?

HIS story is one big wasted opportunity. Is it any surprise that when Kasdan wrote the Star Wars scripts they were way better?

HIS story is a crapulous mess of bad cliches, bad plot devices, plot holes, and crass tacky consumerist exercises.

I was a huge Star Wars fan, now I just want to punch Lucas in the face for p*ssing all over the grave of a once great story.

Thats crap...............what do you base that statement on? Star Wars movie is the number 1 Trilogy nothing comes even close IMO. I liked movies 1 & 2, it was interesting to see how Lucas introduced the characters and how he has tied all the loose ends. I will be standing in line for the third movie. There will be a crap load of others.

Back to the Future

Die Hard

The Godfather

Those are my picks.

I really liked Die Harder over the original Die Hard.

Back to the Future 1 was the best out of the three for sure!!

Godfather 3 was not needed. The first two were brilliant and that one kind of ruined it.

I wasnt a fan of LOTR.

I appreciate the work they did, but I just wasnt into it.

Same thing for Star Wars.

Before 2000, SW trilogy all the way.
Now LOTR has surpassed SW in every way. I can't believe I just typed that...

Agreed.

I think a lot of people need to believe that the new Star Wars have to be 'as good' as the old Star Wars. In direct comparison, sure, the new ones aren't as good.

However, if I try to think about the new movies as stand-alone Science Fiction movies, then I think they do pretty darn well.

I think sometimes people forget some of the abysmal Sci-Fi genre movies that have come out in the last decade. Red Planet, Mission to Mars, Deep Impact, Wild Wild West (i consider it sci-fi), Battlefield Earth, Planet of the Apes, The Core, Lost in Space.

Next to some of those, new Star Wars looks pretty good.

Are there many 'recent' Sci-Fi movies that were better than the new Star Wars?

Allow me to provide a link to the thread discussing how popular Paris Hilton is.

Is her popularity an indication that she's a really talented person selling a high quality product?

Next to some of the Ottawa Senator's early seasons, the Flames run of 7 years out of the payofs doesn't look that bad, but that doesn't mean we enjoyed it does it?

T2
Minority Report
12 Monkeys
Gattaca
Battlestar Gallactica (TV)

Minority Report is a great movie.. however, I don't think I have ever been so bored in my life then when I went to see the second Matrix movie, it was downright awful.

So you are telling us......when this movie makes $300 - $400--$500 Million maybe more. That means nothing.....? Here I thought when movies make money it usually means people like the movie.

Speaking of Minority Report, on CNN yesterday there was a story of a small US company which is making the gloves and gestural control of computers a reality.

Made me want to break out my NES Power Glove!

Yup. Looked more or less exactly like the Minority Report set up. Cool stuff.

I'm saying current popularity isn't a reliable indicator of quality.

Exhibit B: The Pacifier made more at the box office than Pulp Fiction

I liked the 3rd Jurassic Park, but the 2nd one was pretty bad. The whole Dino loose on a big city was just a Godzilla move, the first one was more then that. They got back to what a Jurrasic Park movie is about in #3.

And oh..
