Probably should mention that Redweek is a site (like someone else mentioned above) for folks to rent out a timeshare week they don't want.
Downside: They probably only have 1 available
Upside: They might be negotiable on the price, especially if it looks like they might not get it rented otherwise.
Yeah, once I was able to get a great price on someone renting out a timeshare. It was pretty late notice (only a few weeks out) and for the week we were going there was like a dozen units all similar for rent in what looked like the same property, so I just asked the one I liked for an additional discount since I knew I was probably their only chance.
This summer we're renting a house with the family between San Diego and LA, it's a big house with a big swimming pool outside, out on an acreage or something so no neighbours to worry about. Within driving distance of the beach, and all the stuff we'd want to see (Lego Land, Seaworld, Zoo, etc) but quiet. And takes advantage of the dollar.
House rental works out to around $100 per night per family.
Sound's great!
We usually head out from Phoenix to San Diego once a year. We only stay a few nights. One of these times, I'd like to rent a house out there for a week or so.
