Dad should go back to live near daughter until she is an adult.

Remember, its the Daily Mail, think a couple of echelons below the Calgary Sun.

It was probably Red Deer based on the Mail's nototriety for fact checking.

That what I was thinking. Alberta might be where his heart is, but it isn't where his daughter wants to be. If he wants to play a crucial role in raising her to adulthood and to be able to visit her, he should move back. That all said if everyone in the story is deadset on living where they want to live, then all's well that ends well provided that the father's willing to pay child support.

I moved here in my early 20's so it was completely my own decision. I also moved to an actual community with things to do. A little bit different for sure.

I've never seen such a shirt before, but the answer is obvious: you get them in England.

To be fair, the majority of Canada is a barren, snow-covered wilderness.

I was actually in court for this one.
The girl was going to be awarded custody to her Northern Albertan parent... But but then just as the judge was readying his gavel, a prosecutor ran in breathless and yelled "Your Honour! I've just come to find out that Northern Alberta is home to THE EDMONTON OILERS!"
The judge quickly threw the case out, and the girl remained in England.

That's funny - I'm actually visiting my family in the UK right now. Even though I was born in Canada, my parents emigrated just before I was born. It will always be "home" to them, but they swear that they'll never live there again. And they're from a fairly rural area (Norfolk) and aren't even from one of those old steel towns like Middlesborough, Sheffield, Birmingham, etc.
There was an English family across the street from me a few years ago, and they felt the same way. Nice to have ties to Britain, but their lifestyle in Canada is far above what they had in the UK.

I'm a similar case but the opposite nationality. The way I have come to see it is that in Canada one can much more easily find the means to live comfortably but in the UK/Europe one finds an environment that is much more conducive to simply living and enjoying life.
Lucky for me, I'm in a field where I can make a decent salary in the UK. Any difference in standard of living (i.e. salary and cost of living) is offset by the "working to live" rather than "living to work" lifestyle I'm afforded.

I am surprised that more people aren't upset by the fact that this mother did actually abduct these kids. My wife just went to the States with our kids and I had to sign a letter saying that it was alright, this is the reason for those letters. As a dad, I am upset that someone can just sneak out during the day with the kids and never come back. This is not very responsible parenting. I realize that the daughter didn't want to go back. That is what being parents is all about, sometimes kids don't know what is best for them.
