Maradona becomes Maragona.

Outgoing Argentina coach Diego Maradona has launched a sensational attack on AFA president Julio Grondona and director of national teams Carlos Bilardo, claiming he was "lied to" and "betrayed" and effectively sacked from the role.

Maradona left the role on Monday after the AFA board demanded he replace many of his backroom staff if he was to continue as coach until the 2014 World Cup. Maradona claimed that was an ultimatum Grondona knew he would not agree to and that it was therefore a way to force him out of the job.

Luis Segura, a member of the executive committee and former secretary of national teams, added: "He made it too difficult for us. He rejected all changes. Diego said he did not want any changes. That's unfair.''

The only thing I can glean from this is that perhaps my original suggestion was more accurate than I thought.

Maradona was a cheerleader but the backroom staff did all of the work and all of the tactical analysis and basically everything other than wave their arms around like a fat, ######ed Penguin.

I appreciate that he was faithful to his backroom staff, but this is ridiculous.
