Probably wanted to give Rittich a moment to collect himself and then put him back in on the next stoppage. But the. Smith let's in the first goal and now Peters has to give Smith a chance to stop a puck.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Rittich back in the 2nd, but he clearly needed a break to get his head in the game.
One of the worst periods I've ever watched Gaudreau play and I don't miss too many games.
Lots of game left to turn this around.
|
Second goal wasn’t ‘head not in the game’. Fluke bounce. But it was two really avoidable goals.
I wouldn’t hsve pulled him but kind of get the gamble.

Yeah the first was a bad one, that is true it seemed to surprise him too which he usually is pretty ready for anything most of the time I really didn’t he looked shaky though aside from that so don’t feel like that was the reasoning behind the pull.

He was overly dramatic, but Francis is right about the goalie pull. Never should have happened.

Seriously? The TV guide decieved me and I thought it started at 8, but that was the other sportsnet channels joining the Flames game later.
Any one care to give a breakdown of the period?

Francis is over dramatic but he’s not wrong.
If Rittich struggles down the stretch this teams in trouble

Is he though? I don't think the pull was because of Rittich, it was to wake up the team. We might even see Rittich back.

Well guess I don’t have to watch anymore. Season has officially turned around. It was a nice run. Isn’t it great having a psychic like Francis cover this team?

When Smith is in net its usually to give Rittich a rest or on a B2B...that is probably why he isn't pulled often despite our best wishes

[GT] Sharks @ Flames
That first goal against was pretty damn awful, but even now...Rittich has earned a bad night. He’s earned some good faith.
I don’t like the pull.
The whole way the organization has treated Smith this year screams of “the old ways”. A veteran who hasn’t earned a damn thing this year, and I’d feel a lot better about Rittich getting pulled if it was for a back-up that actually earned his games this year.

You maybe kill his confidence when you leave floundering with his head not in the game.
Or maybe you're a better coach than Peters?

No he’s definitely wrong. Saying “if Rittich struggles down the stretch” is completely different than “this will be the turning point in the season”.

Honestly I find Francis is a great litmus test on most things, when I agree with him I normally have to pinch myself to see if I’m having a nightmare.

All I know is the goalie change will be a non-issue if the Flames can come out and play their game. It's only 2 goals they're behind. Win 2 periods.
