I wish tehy would just shut 7th avenue down for perpendicular car traffic. Although that is extremely difficult to change, it would make the trains flow a lot faster if they didn't have to contend with lights.

In a perfect world, I guess . . .

So basically no one is allowed to cross 7th in a car between... where? I guess it'd be 14th St SW and 5th St SE, if you don't want the trains ever to have to deal with lights? Basically no one can enter downtown during rush hour. I mean I'm assuming that you're saying they should do this during rush hour.

I can't imagine the nightmare that would be the 14th St Bridge, or Crowchild for that matter.

Yeah. The hangup is still 7th Ave. being at (actually pushing over) throughput capacity. The second operator would be beneficial if there were throughput capacity to spare but the number of rolling stock were limited.

Capacity gains at this point will only be achieved through 4 car train operation and separating three 2 train routes that are currently interlined along 7th Avenue by building the 8th Avenue Subway. Building the SE line will provide some relief as well since it would divert some ridership away from the south line which has the highest demand among all existing lines.

Generally, although taxes have really gone up, in looking at the mayor's voting record he does not vote ideologically and he tends to vote independently of any of the blocks in council. Bottom line is he did a good job. I'll also stick with my local guy as his voting record indicated he looked out for the ward and did a good job in trying to hold the line on taxes.

School trustees, an opportunity for tax savings? Why can't the school boards run their own show. I once voted for a guy that said he would forgo the salary and change it to a part time position.

Here is an idea:
Sell City Golfcourses to Real estate Developers.
Use that money to extend the LRT to SETON.

.5 of a percentage of the population actually golfs at city courses, while I would estimate 15-20% would use the SE Leg of the LRT.

Benefit the greater good.

This is my platform.

The trustee position is a part time position actually. The school boards once held the power of taxation and I suspect that is the only way to make them relevant again. Otherwise voters really don't care one way or the other about these people (for the vast majority of voters anyway).

So how about once the stations are ready for 4-car trains but we don't have enough LRVs to implement them?

So, let's assume that the city could sell off golf courses for $100 million, and sold those ones. Does the city have 47 other golf courses to sell to gain enough money to build the LRT to Seton?

It's bad enough they're closing down McCall Lake, I would consider bringing a torch and pitchfork to City Hall and protesting outside if they chose to sell of Shaganappi. So would alot of others I imagine.

While we're at it, why not sell off Maple Ridge too? Let's go back in time and have enough golf recreation for a city the size of Regina. Clearly Calgary is moving in that direction. :P

This would not be possible as I believe that land was donated to the City by a philanthropist on the condition that they be used as green/public space. If that changes, ownership would revert to the family of the philanthropist.

How many non rich, white guys are there in golf? I can only think of a handful: Tiger, Vijay Singh, and some Asian dude, KJ Choi or something? Very elitist sport. You don't see many kids using golf as their vehicle for getting out of the ghetto.
