Well it was a joke, but mostly because he played 3 different QBs and didn't seem to know how to play any of them was just part of his inept coaching.

I think that the Lions should look at Lovie Smith as their next HC. His teams were disciplined if not a little vanilla.....and that is Detroits biggest poblem, they cant get out of their own way.

Thank god.

A little worried there for awhile with everyone else canning their guys and reports that they may be leaning towards keeping him.

Bucs will probably make a run at Lovie. Whoever does get Lovie can enjoy pure mediocrity for the foreseable future. Lovie is another guy who's best suited as a co-ordinator, but whoever hires him is making about as uninspired a hire as you can make.

Detroit needs some that can that D to be aggressive but within the rules, but they need someone to work with stafford as well he's wildly inconsistent and turnover prone.

I would be fine with that.

They need some stability since it doesn't seem to come from the guys on the field and a guy like Lovie that will preach discipline and have them actually care about ball security.

So many dumb, dumb plays from this team over the past 3 years.

I will gladly take the mediocrity that results in a SB trip and trips to the play-offs.

I guess we can go with the flavor of the week from college as that usually works out or a co-ordinator from some team that is usually a co-ordinator for a reason.

Detroit kind of reminds me of the stamps prior to huff coming in. Team loaded with talent on both sides of the ball taking undisciplined penalties and turnover prone qb.

His two things he talked about was playing by the rules and taking care of the football.

Then I guess you'd be down with Ken Whisenhunt as well?

I would be fine with him yep.

Off the top of my head and not knowing who will be fired/available I would prefer in order Jon Gruden, Lovie Smith, Ken Whisenhunt, Mike Zimmer. Assuming that Cowher is done/not coming to Detroit.

Not interested in college guys like O'Brien, Briles, Sumlin etc.

Not too keen on co-ordinators like McDaniels, Roman, Jay Gruden, Norv, Phillips Horton.

I wouldn't want either. I just look at what their replacements did this year (Trestman did basically the same in reverse, great offense, poor defense rather than the inverse; Arians a vast improvement) and think why would I want guys who were replaced by guys who did the same or better? I can find a Whisenhunt or Lovie type coach easily if I'm a competent GM.

I also think Lovie isn't going to be a very serious candidate for many jobs and will simply be the token Rooney Rule candidate.

That was a garbage group of QB's that Whisenhunt had to work with. His problem in Arizona was personel not coaching.

I think you go with every guy and find reasons wrong with them it isn't like it is Walsh, Lombardi, Noll and Belicheat available to come in and coach the teams.

Plenty of guys have had questionable starts (although SB appearances aren't all that questionable) and done better in their 2nd go rounds.

Looks like I might as well get used to Lovie. Lovie to the Bucs is sounding like it is very likely to happen. Just not even remotely exciting hire. The Bucs issue is offense right now, and Lovie isn't going to help that out at all. Unless they are opening up the pocketbook to maybe get Chudzinski in as OC I don't see Lovie being a succesful hire.

I'm calling Brian Billick to either the Lions or Browns.

I think the Lions will be an appealing job. I'm not sure about the Browns.

The Lions are patient, perhaps to a fault; the Browns just fired a head coach less than a year into a 4 year contract.

If I were a sought after head coach candidate, I know which position I would prefer.

And unless you are giving your coach a lot of personnel power (and then he needs to prep for the draft), I'm not sure what the huge rush is to hire now. I know if you have a candidate in mind you want to hire them before someone else does, but I think taking a little time and some due diligence so you can get the right coach for the long term is in a team's long term best interests.

With Lombardi there can't imagine the coach gets much of a say and certainly won't be close to the key decision maker.

sounds like Dolphins may make a big move to shake things up. I really hope they do, their offseason moves were terrible, especially ignoring some major gaps on the O-line, useless RBs, as well as depleting their linebacker positions.

The offensive coach (sherman) is an idiot, and single handedly lost the team games (first game vs buffalo a great example), i think phiblin is a moron who has zero emotion, and tannehill is GREATLY overrated. Kid has a terrible arm, basically 1 in every 2-3 throws is at least 2 yards away from where it needed to be.

i wish the media would pile on more about the complete fail of the dolphins over hte last 2 weeks of the season. They controlled their destiny going into week 16, but got completely dominated in both games (outscored 35-7 during the games they needed to win to qualify for the wildcard).

The problems with the Dolphins start with the owner and GM. There's no good reason Ireland should've kept his job this long.
