So I'm redoing my office layout and I think I'm going to go away from having a monitor that can game for my PC and a TV for my consoles to having a separate gaming monitor that I'd use for both my PC and my consoles.. for my PC it would be off most of the time (i.e. I wouldn't use it as a 2nd monitor). That way I can be happy with getting OLED and not worry about burn in or subpixel layout / text quality stuff.
42" seems about the right size for the space, I can push it far enough away that with a mouse and keyboard I won't be too close.
Any good recommendations? I see an LG C3 42" for $900 on Facebook, are any of those LG OLEDs going to be good? Not looking for an ultrawide.
Unfortunately I still have enough vertigo symptoms that I can't really play on an ultrawide; too much into my peripheral vision and the motion makes me feel disoriented.

Hm VA panel but gets pretty good reviews, what's the blooming like? I have a 32" 4K IPS HDR monitor which is quite good but the blooming from the local dimming is pretty distracting, one of the reasons I wanted to try an OLED screen.
I'd be tempted to try but not for a higher price than the OLED ones.

Ah man, I wish I were able to provide feedback with a discernable eye, any prevalent blooming/bleeding, but it hasn't bothered me any. My previous monitor was an x34 u/w, & an adjacent 27" Samsung OLED vertically mounted. The conventional size is much more my jam, with ample usable real estate. The old workstation was also in a considerably darker space, vs this one which is under a sheltered window. Brightness, and contrasting blacks, are much better. Practical & cleaner too!
I have never liked ultrawides for gaming personally. Nevermind you're going to get hit on frame rate pretty hard to drive all the additional pixels in your peripheral vision. Unless you're down stepping in resolution to match.
Yeah my vertigo unfortunately limits me on the ultrawide, normally an FPS or other game with lots of motion doesn't really bother me on a normal screen but the ultrawide into my peripheral vision disorients me enough I can't enjoy it. I like the idea of them tho.

That depends how big you go. I have a 34" and can get 144 with settings maxed on a 4090.
I'm thnking about upgrading this fall to an OLED though. I'd like to go bigger but I don't know if it's going to fit on my desk with my Cintiq so I might stick with 34".
So, internet setup for my new cabin AKA detached suite... basically, instead of a coax drop, I want to run ethernet outside from the main building on the property to the outbuilding (secondary suite) so I can run everything from one modem and not pay Rogers / Shaw two separate monthly internet service payments for two buildings on the same property. The two buildings are about 175 feet apart.
Questions:
1. Is Cat5E OK or does it need to be a Cat6 cable now?
2. How long can a cable like that run before it's too long?
3. Would it work well to run a cable ~50 feet to my shed (in between the main house and the detached suite), plug in a mesh network hub there, and then put another mesh network unit inside the suite ~50 feet away? Or is that going to cause problems because of the exterior walls disrupting things?
4. Am I missing some easy solution to this that I haven't thought of?

1. I would go Cat6 for sure, especially at that distance (175' is about half the max distance to run any PoE)
2. 100m typical limit for full speed/power
3 & 4. That sounds like it would work, personally I would go all unifi and use their stuff - they have some outdoor routers that would probably work better than going to the shed (unless you want the wifi in the shed)
OK, damn... I'm actually sort of overwhelmed by what they're offering there. It seems like I'd just need a bunch of outdoor U6 Mesh units? Like, one on the outside of the main building, one on the shed and one on the outside of the suite?
I guess maybe I should contact them and see what they suggest. It would be obviously way more expensive than running Cat6 through a pipe but would also be much more convenient / easier.
EDIT: Apparently they make a building-to-building bridge but it's $700 and up. Still might be the thing to do...
