BTW, look at the recruits over the last 5 years and you'll find that the Big Ten has taken in more than its share of 5 star athletes out of every elite football state in the country with the exception of Big 12 territory. Players aren't avoiding Big Ten programs at all.

Also, if you really believe the Pac 10 is breaking away form the Big Ten please back that up. USC has broken away, the rest of the Pac 10 is within a touchdown one way or another from a comparable Big Ten team, and based on this weekend so is the elite of the Pac 10.
Just to clarify, are you an actual Big 11 fan or are you just arguing for argument sake? IIRC, you attend some law school in Michigan, but not at a Big 11 school, so did you grow up in the area?

First, Florida, USC and several other elite programs have developed a more pro-style offense over the past 5-7 years. OSU has stayed with the traditional power run formation and other offensive schemes that were popular year ago. I think that's problematic because of the quality of athletes that are available for coaches to use now. I think OSU's problem outside of the conference is a direct result of their old and near-obsolete choice in offense.

As for their five star recruits, who? I'm looking at the roster and 96 of the 113 players are from Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Illinois or Indiana. The majority of the 17 or so, non-Big 11 players are from either Florida, NY or Georgia. I would take the time to look at the lesser Big 11 teams, but I suspect that if the "flagship" program of the Big 11 recruits 90% of their players from Big 11 country, that will hold true across the board.

USC and Cal are the big teams in the Pac-10 v. Penn State and OSU. I would say that's a pretty easy wash for the Pac-10. I would say the ineptitude of Washington, Washington St matches the ineptitude of Northwestern, Indiana, or Purdue. I would take the remaining Pac-10 teams (AZ St., AZ, Oregon, Oregon St. Stanford, etc...) over the remaining Big 11 teams fairly easily.

I don't know what else you want me to dissect. Heismans? National Championships? Showing up in important games? Not having coaches that look like librarians? I favor the Pac-10, you for whatever reason favor the Big 11. I doubt I'm changing your mind and you're not changing mine that the Big 11 sucks.

I read your freaking quote, sounds as dumb now as it did yesterday. One of those awful teams looked pretty good against ND on saturday. Before the season people were talking about the prospect of ND being a BCS team or even running the table. And here comes an awful team from the Big 10 to fix that.

BTW your bowls analysis is useless. It only makes sense if say a PAC10#4 plays another #4. But that is not the case, The holiday for example has been the PAC10 #2 vs the BigXII #3.

Are you seriously saying Michigan winning over ND is some sort of flagship win for the Big 10?? Really? Michigan was 3-9 last year 9-4 the previous season, ND was 7-6, 3-9 the year before. Combined 22-28...real juggernauts there!!

As for ND being a BCS team...did you buy into that hype as well? They are getting better...but just aren't in BCS bowl game class yet. The same actually applies to Michigan....who are likely 2 years away.

As for my analysis...it is what it is....and the only real way to compare the 2 conferences straight up. The Big 10 is the 4th best conference in the country and teetering on 5th.

Most people thought that because of how insanely easy ND's schedule was.

And with USC on the schedule I didn't hear one sane person say they would run the table.

Most thought they would skate by on their easy schedule and then get killed in a bowl when they had to play a real team.

It was a good win by Michigan but not some sort of chest thumping win against a top team.

Surprised USC got only one first place vote ... they beat a Top 10 team ... Florida beats ... Troy. Wow. Oh well, obviously I'm biased.

Another reason why I don't like preseason polls. The first poll should be based on a body of work to date, not some screwy hypothetical equation of returning players, schedule, and previous year's performance. Maybe after week 4? Maybe this would give teams incentive to schedule better teams within those 4 weeks to gain respect in the polls if mickey mouse wins aren't given as much credence.

lots of gator envy....

not only did florida run the table but they kicked the crap out of everyone in the way after the fluke loss at home to ole miss.
they lost by one point to a team that destroyed a big 12 power house in the cotton bowl.

your spite for floirda is getting old man. you should be lucky just like utah to even get the Championship bid.

Utah fans need to get over the fact that they are not in a BCS conference and until they are they outta be happy with just a bcs bid.

Bama was by far not ready for the sugar bowl and utah was and beat the piss out of them.

USC has a stigma about them lately that they cant seem to pull a undefeated season off. they always seem to lose to a team that they shouldn't and they are getting it right now.

Apparently, I'm not the only one that thinks Tressel may be wearing on OSU fans who are tired of being rolled over by legit teams:

But landslide losses in the 2006 and 2007 national title games to Florida and LSU, and subsequent defeats in high-profile games to USC, Penn State, Texas and again to USC have caused the critics to come after the guy in the sweater vest.
I don't think (hope) it's imminent, but the good will from 2002 and the record against Michigan has just about been used up.

I didn't think ND was world class, but many ppl did, I'm just saying awful teams don't beat ND. and the Big 10 top to bottom is better than the Big East. People want to say it's slipping or overrated, that's easy to agree with, but awful and comparable in any way to the Big East is way over the top.

good point. Florida was the better team just not on that day.
Ole Miss is a good team also was last year and is this year.

I get tired of mullen when he was here and his idea of holding the playbook back so lsu and UGA dont know what we are going to throw at them basically cost the gators that game.

the only person I heard that ND was going to be in the NC game was that old wind bag Lou Holtz. that son of a bitch needs to retire. I cant stand listening to him anymore.

That was last year. Anyway, you said the conference is awful from #3 on, and your comparing them to the Big East.

Anyway I think it's slipped from the third best conference to the 4th, but it's not awful. If you want awful take a look at the treachorous path BSU, BYU and Utah have to get to a 14 million dollar payday.

Speaking of cupcakes, I'm only in the states for a few days each month, so I never really hear, is there much talk of either teams like Utah moving to the PAC 10 and or shifting who is considered a BCS conference? I'm ready to take that honor away from the Big East and the ACC and add a couple at large bids.

Also, lots of venom towards Florida here. Yes they get all the hype but they are the defending champion and don't look to be slowing down any. They are the best team in the best conference, they deserve the hype until they show otherwise.

^ your right. i'm on ESPN boards and the venom about UF's sched is a joke. every big school in the top 5 have cupcakes on the schedule.

Bama played FIU last week
North texas this week
and tenn chatanooga later this year. but no one is saying a thing.

Its getting tiresome because bama and UF dont have to sched USC because the conference is there.

PSU has akron this week i think.
USC plays who washington? I know thats a conference team but not much of one.

I just cant wait until UF puts 50 on tenn this weekend! its gonna be great.

They also have a stigma of finishing top 4 in every season the past 8 years.

Something no other program has come close to doing.

So other SEC schools have cupcakes too - what a surprise. Florida doesn't just have cupcakes - they have 3 of them. But I guess that's the advantage of being a nationally recognized program. You can schedule crap for non-conference and no one cares if you take care of business in conference.

USC plays a Washington team that now #9 LSU only beat by a TD. Washington is no pushover with Locker back under center.

The problem with the SEC is the whole tough conference schedule mantra comes in large part from the fact that most of the conference plays brutally weak non-conference schedules. This all but guarantees a plethora of 8-4 and higher teams and, in turn, top 25 rankings.

Don't get me wrong, the SEC is probably the toughest conference in the country, but this is in large part due to inflated records from out of conference play.
