Had his chance to apologize and stood his ground... that was the tipping point. Don't let the door hit you on the way out, Don!

There. Now go buy a poppy and relish in a old man's demise.

Given the stories from the summer I think Rogers was looking to get rid of him anyway. They were really pressuring him to retire.

This is just a convenient excuse for them

Ya their presser makes it seem like the decision was mutual. CBC in-house counsel at their finest.

Don’s time was up 10-12 years ago. It’s unfortunate it had to be a firing, and he hadn’t just retired a few years ago instead.

Anytime I've watched him, I secretly hope in the back of my mind that he doesn't do anything stupid or cringe. Yet every time it was almost physically painful to watch.
Growing up he was amazing. Now? tbch. AWFUL. Best of luck to Don Cherry, but regardless of the reasoning, he should be gone.

I blame CTV myself, pretty brutal for CTV to fire Don Cherry.

I'm not sure if firing him was the way to go, but it's possible Cherry left them no choice. Either way, they probably should have waited at least a day.

It was probably Trudeau's idea

Correction Rogers-Sportsnet. But you bet CBC was consulted and had a say in the decision to fire Cherry.

Or any armed forces, past or present, for that matter having their day of remembrance overshadowed by this fossil.
Yeah, if it was me, I’d have waited to avoid the distraction. But it’s not Don Cherry Day, it’s Remembrance Day. I guess they wanted to pull the bandaid quickly.

I tend to agree this was perhaps in the works anyway - his voice is gone, his takes are now unintelligible and they run the risk of this type of thing every time.

They should have waited until tomorrow. Totally inappropriate on Remembrance Day.

I honestly can’t stomach the hypocrisy that has invaded Canada.

Let’s look at two quick highlights of 2019:

- Black face Trudeau gets elected
- Woman-beating Chris Brown’s new album becomes #1 on the charts, again.

Don Cherry says “you people” during one of his incoherent ramblings without make up on, or without raising a hand to a woman - and the whole nation piles on and destroys a Canadian icon and turns him into an absolute villain.

I won’t stand by Don Cherry on what he said, but I think it’s a damn rotten shame that people no longer seem to believe in anything. Their focus is sporadic and self serving. Perhaps it has always been that way, but the way people pick and choose what to support...it’s as incoherent and inconsistent as even the craziest of Don Cherry rants.

Damn shame things have played out this way.

Why would they be? CBC doesn't even get any ad revenue from HNIC anymore. It's entirely a Rogers product

Have no problem with them doing this on remembrance day. I highly doubt Don was going to appologize. He should have been canned years ago.
