Wow. What a couple of drama queens. They deserve each other.

How is Rooney's situation in any way socialist or the result of socialist policies? If anything it's exactly the opposite. Socialism would be forced to enter a draft at age seventeen and only being allowed to play for the team that picks you, like they do in so-called capitalist leagues like the NHL, NBA, NFL, MLB etc.
Again, you're great at jokes.

Maybe you should find a forum where humor isn't allowed, it seems it would suit you better.

I cant believe this. He bad mouthed the organization, the owners, his teammates and his manager's latest acquisitions. Why would they want him now?

I can only believe that this was done so that he couldnt leave on a free.

Who knows Locke. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if That Scouse git and Scottish w*nker were just shining everyone on - that it was just one big stitch up.

It was front-page news here and everyone had an opinion on it. "There is no such thing as bad publicity... (except for your own obituary)."

Those idiots deserve each other.

Thats true too. It could have just been a huge wind up.

Like, if someone does this in Hockey (Sheldon Souray) they dont get welcomed back with open arms, they get told to get lost and never come back. So this surprises the hell out of me, it just seems so unusual and a bad decision.

It could be a huge inside joke or something, or it could be an agreement between Rooney and United to prevent him from walking out on a free or buying out the last year of contract ensuring that United get something for him, good asset management.

Or, it could be that Rooney honestly has the IQ of the last dump I took, tried playing games and suddenly realized that he had no idea what he was doing and he jumped back into Fergie's bed...

That would make sense if there was an ounce of benefit to Rooney from doing this, I don't see any though. What would he have gained from this? His clubs fans are now of two minds about him and his teammates can't be all that impressed (unless they were in on it, but that's pretty hard to believe considering that would have almost certainly resulted in a leak). He probably leveraged the situation into increased wages, but that could have been done without the public remarks about the club.

The only possibillity I see is that this was a means to put pressure on the ownership to spend, but I find it kind of hard to believe that an ownership group who got rich in businesses that often faced public scorn, and who have been hated since arrival in Manchester, would give a damn about an extra dose of public pressure.

I'd say the more likely explanation is a Lebron like sense that he could get away with whatever he wanted, probably coming from people around him who are out to leech as much as they can.

Rooney definitely believes his own hype, that is for sure. I just have zero faith in this being exactly what Fergie has described. He is the mater manipulator and is the only one who believes he is bigger than Manchester United. And the way he conducts himself, maybe he is bigger than the club. Who knows.

The benefit to Rooney is possibly a very lucrative weekly wage and the promise of more trophies to come. True, he could have handled it differently and still got what he wanted but in reality, he isn't the smartest guy around and probably doesn't know how best to react to certain situations. He could learn a lot from Fergie in how to manipulate things to your advantage.

This reminds me of the Tiger Woods scandal where what was being reported early on just didn't make sense. Why did Elin need an iron to smash a window and drag him out of his SUV? The real story eventually came out, I just wonder if it will happen here as well. Something about this just didn't sit right with a lot of people.

Meh. The Rooney drama was almost as dramatic as the Liverpool takeover saga. What an absolute joke.

Like others have said, Rooney and Ferguson/United deserve each other.

Not to forget about this.

Gazza arrested over drug offence

This isn't going to end well for Gascoigne. Too bad he's not been able to control his demons like some his contemporaries have done.

Well I thought I'd put this in here before I try somewhere else. I'm going to be selling a brand new Manchester United jersey with tags still on it if any footy fans on here are interested in it. $75 obo.

Fun. I think Pompey fans can blame none other than good ol' 'Arry for that.

Debts of £120M. Not insubstantial but far too much for a championship club.

except that the club had their best finishes under him in the PL, they won the FA cup

and they made profit on the players he brought in who were then sold (68.3m pounds in players bought, those players have been sold for 103.94m pounds to date by Pompey)

HAHa- they had a chairman Locke - or did Harry swipe the chequebook from under their nose?

I have no idea, honestly, I dont follow Pompey or Harry that closely, but from what I understand, regardless of the fact that they were sold for more than they were bought, while there the wage structure was outrageous. Further, the timing of holding those players, paying them and then being relegated screwed the finances.

As for the chairman, I have no idea what influence Harry had, but I'd say there was definitely some, as he brought some of thos ex-Pompey players with him to Spurs.

for more than he paid for them coming to Spurs than he did to get them to Pompey

if anything he saved the club for a few years
