Well, part 2 is out.

-"I think we need more Kadris, not less". When asked about trading Kadri.

-When asked why Conroy hasn't been extended "We keep that internal. We're not discussing that. We have a process to go through".

-Says he likes Huska, but we need to get better results as well.

-Says they would really love to re sign Andersson long term and that could still happen. Said they are not looking to trade him for a 1st that would likely be a late 1st rounder.
If someone offers more they will consider it, assuming Andersson chooses not to stay.

-Asked if this is a retool or a rebuild. Says retooling is more accurate and they think they can still be a competive team.

Again, he really should have just said nothing.

It's really the timing and necessity of this messaging from the front office that is truly confusing.

Yeah part 2 highlights that continue to sting:

- Stonewalling on Conroy

Quote:
We keep that internal. We're not discussing that. We have a certain process we go through here.
- Continued reluctance to see the necessity of star players writing it off as fantasy, when the process itself is pretty much well known and accepted by the rest of the league

Quote:
We don't want to go into the season saying, ‘We want to draft in the top five.’ I don't want to, in any way, shape or form, be associated with that, because then, why are we doing this? Just to fantasize we're going to get a star player?
- Even more push back from DM on discussing Conroy

Quote:
Again, we're not going to talk contract. I'm not going to comment on his status, but Craig has done a good job here for us. And as we go through every day, everything's an evaluation, as we all know. I think he's done a good job making this Flames organization an attractive place. When people get out here, they say, ‘Wow, this is a good place to play.’ And when the new building comes, that's going to be a help for us to not only attract, but keep, our players. So, we'll see how this plays out.
- Not closing the door on Andersson, with preference be to extend

Quote:
The idea was, ‘Let's get into the season, let's see how things go. We'll revisit this at some point.’ And that's where we sit. We have not closed the door at all. I don't think he has, but there is a time element here that at some point that decision will have to be made. We'd love, personally, to find a way to get him signed here long term, but we'll see whether that can happen.
- We're not rebuilding, and believe they can fight for a playoff spot and be a competitive team

Quote:
I think a retooling is more accurate, but that was started two years ago when we traded all those really good NHL players. There's a new mindset going forward. You think of the last few years when Tre (Brad Treliving) and Darryl (Sutter) were here, we were going for it. We gave up picks and we acquired players, and unfortunately we didn't have the playoff success that you would like. We're in a different phase now, but we still think we can be a competitive team. We can fight for playoff spots as we grow the franchise.

So uhhhh, anyone still believe Conroy has any autonomy? I think it's more likely right now that the rumored division in the locker room is actually organizational. Conny and the kids and thos who want to rebuild on one side and the vets and owners and POHO on the other.

The Rasmus Andersson stuff is mind boggling . Just....

I hate Don Maloney. Hate him.

The fear of trading Coleman and Kadri and becoming Buffalo may make a bit of sense IF THEY WERENT 34 and 36 years old!

No one in the Flames org or ownership can believe these 2 are going to stop or help us from becoming anything in the long term by being on the team.

This isn’t people clammering to deal prime age assets to get worse. People want two old depreciating assets traded to help speed up the rebuild by finishing lower and get assets back . This season is toast . How long does management / ownership think these two can play at a high level given their ages??

Even if the Flames were expected to be better and ownership truely believed that (remember 80% of this board though barely miss playoffs or better - it isn’t that far fetched that management and ownership felt the same ) I sure hope the plan wasn’t going to have it be on the backs of Coleman and Kadri .

Today’s NHL is a young man’s game . These two are actually defying Father Time quite well , but that is an undefeated foe .

I'm not even outraged any more. I am genuinely concerned that we apparently don't even have a set GM in what might be the most important year for us in the next decade.

What a nightmare.

Also interesting how he positioned this as year three of the retool. And how those players that left would have helped them a lot right now.

This sentiment speaks to the oft debated Flames trying to retain players that have walked.

This franchise is cooked. The tone and messaging provides zero confidence that they have any clue as to what they’re doing. Absolutely shameful PR messaging.

The Flames are rightfully getting negative press over these tone deaf comments. To save face they should extend Conroy immediately to take down the temperature. Considering this is the Flames, they will undoubtedly not do this and continue to dig the hole a little deeper.

Sorry I’m not up to date with what’s happening but is this satire?

Because if it’s real these are the literal opposite answers from what they should be. And I think it’s no longer about showing trading partners we’d hold onto these players, it’s moved into exposing pure rot in the mindset of management. I refuse to believe Conroy believes that we should extend Anderson.

Absolutely insane messaging, they let Conroy start a rebuild but are now acting like he was mandated to have us already be playoff contenders by this year. What’s the harm in saying yes we are negotiating with Conroy for an extension instead of “we keep that internal” as if he’s done anything egregiously wrong so far. Fans are 100% on board with Conroy, not on board with Maloney and whoever is instructing him to act like he is.

I hope there’s some way that we can get rid of Maloney and other cooks in the kitchen and go forward with Conny and Iggy as GM/AGM in the future.

I didn't think it was possible, but the details in part 2 are probably worse than part 1.

A young man’s game with the exception of 67 Don Maloney, who if you take him for his word has learned nothing despite being in the game for 1000 years.

Was a good run, been watching the team for the better part of the last 25 years, but after them pilfering the public purse and crying poverty with no tangible return for the taxpayers, I don't really have much tolerance left for this chicanery. When does Baseball start back up?

What's the sad part of this all?

As attendance continues to crumble because the team has no stars to cheer for (outside of Wolf), this will just further entrench them in the "we don't rebuild, because the market can't sustain it" when in reality, it's their approach that is building apathy in this market.

Francis and Steinberg's conversation acknowledged what's hurting this fanbase, and it isn't the risk of rebuild, it's the Flames current and historical approach.

Maloney is short sighted, and poor at his job. I refuse to believe Conroy is, however...how many of the other managers in that office are there actively pushing what Maloney is? I'd wager Conroy is outnumbered at this stage, and yes - it's all speculation, but I'm such a big fan of Conroy that I choose not to believe he's part of this rot.

At least there was some semblance of hope being 32nd but I’m legitimately going to turn in my fandom if the Flames act on the stuff Maloney is suggesting and don’t renew Conroy.

Kicking and screaming into accepting what the team is, it actually sucks to be a Flames fan.

I'm gonna throw on a tin foil hat here for a sec.

Last summer we heard the Flames are selling ownership stakes.

I wonder if the current owners think the value of the team goes up if they have playoff revenue and this are trying to keep the team competitive during the selling of ownership shares to maximize profit. Hence the ridiculous Maloney Bologna.
