I am betting Stone re-signs for around 3 years at 2.5M per or so.

It seems like a small thing, but this!

He was always so much better on the other side.

Yes

Away from OEL or Brodie stone has been a third pairing guy at best

If Stone takes that low a cap hit, you can bet it is for 1 year as a "show me" deal. He is coming off much more money

So do we sign Stone and trade Gio for a stud forward now?

So the Mike Smith trade included a conditional 3rd in 2018, I guess it becomes a 2019 2nd if we make the playoffs? I had assumed it was either a 2018 2nd or 3rd.

Im ok with this trade. The big bonus on it could be the resurgence of TJ Brodie with a good partner. If that happens this trade is more than worth the price.

People that are down on it because of the future draft picks, just remember our NHL teams core is very young. Gaudreau, Tkachuk, Monahan, Dougie, Bennett are just kids. We do have good prospects as well.

The window is opening right now. It's time to go for it.

I'd be down for Patty Marleau to round out the forward group. Should have a lot of suitors though.

Yeah, Stone is gone. His ask will be too great for a guy who will end up on our third pair.

Look at all those one timers
Doesn't shy away from a fight, solid stay at home that can also produce...

Price, while high, seems reasonable to me.
Add that to being 26, right handed shot and a value contract for three more years, it's basically a homerun.

We have 9F, 5D and 1G.

Bennett, Ferland, Lazar, maybe Chiasson, plus a D-man or two and a backup goalie.

Stone and Versteeg out of the UFA's. Hard to see a big name UFA signed unless we can move some of our overpaid guys like Brouwer, Stajan, Bouma.

yeah, the people that are against this trade and calling Hamonic a 4 don't seem to be factoring in Gio's age...

Love Gio - the guy is a warrior... but he's not the Highlander... Age will catch up to him eventually...

having a 26 year old Hamonic with Hamilton and Brodie, solidifies this Defense for another 6-9 years imo.
