If Bennett was the centerpiece of a Stamkos deal, I would be OK with that. Although losing Bennett is not ideal, it's Steven Friggen Stamkos. You have to give up a core piece for a core piece.

Didnt know people felt that way about mony.

Tampa management must not be nice people. First St.Louis wanted out and now looks like Stamkos will leave.
There's a zero chance Trei will trade Monahan. I doubt Bennett is involved, if he is then Stamkos will have to agree to an extension beforehand.
I'm going to see UFA trades and players who requested trades from last few years and project the cost.
Kovalchuk: Oduya, Bergfors, Cormier, 1st
St.Louis: Callahan and 2 draft picks
Ryan: Silfverberg, Noesen, 1st
Iginla: Agostino, Hanowski, 1st
Those players vary in age/star level but in none of those trades a prospect like Bennett was involved or a player like Monahan was the return. It just doesn't happen.
The return will likely be: Hudler, Poirier, 1st if a trade is to go down.
Lightning can role out:
Triplets
Drouin-Filppula-Hudler
Killorn-Namestnikov-Callahan
Condra-Boyle-Paqquette
Flames can go
Gaudreau-Stamkos-Frolik
Bennett-Monahan-Jones
Ferland-Backlund-Colborne
Raymond-Stajan-Jooris
Bollig

I'd say thats Johnny as I think he drives the offense but Monahan is right behind him.

I have to agree with Vinny (otherwise he'll break my kneecaps).
Monahan is the 'Toews' to Johnny's 'Kane,' just as an example. I'm not saying they're as good as them or ever will be, just that those are the roles they're playing on this team.

... no need to get hot under the collar like that.
What the Flames need to do is avoid kneejerk trades and use the players they have to work their way out of this funk. Getting Brodie back will help and so will the fact that the goaltending situation is no longer a carousel. Last year Hudler scored 31 goals as did Monahan. Gaudreau scored 24. Bouma and his 16 goals from last year are currently missing from the lineup. Bennett has the potential to become a truly great player. The team is in a slump and quite frankly is still rebuilding. Last year's playoff run was great and everything but let's face it the Flames squeaked in with loads of 3rd period comebacks and played a Canucks team that was dealing with key injuries and wasn't an elite team to begin with. I'm not in favor of making a risky deal just to bring Stamkos here as a desperate win-now move. Remember when Burke traded the picks that became Seguin and Hamilton in exchange for Kessel?

I've always felt mony is a bit overrated here. I can't stand the toews comparison. Johnny actually plays like Kane. Monahan plays nothing like toews. He is a center, has been a captain and is rather serious. He he has a decent 2 way game. But that's where the comparisons end in my opinion. Toews is the most valuable center in the NHL and in my opinion the 2nd most valuable player in the league after Price.
I think skill wise and in terms of compete level, skating, vision, physicality and other aspects Monahan is not really comparable. He has a deadly wrist shot. He's good at face offs and has a great hockey iq for his age.
I think Gaudreau is our most valuable and untradeable player. He is magical. A once in a lifetime kind of player. So unique. So talented. So entertaining. I'd stop watching the flames if we traded him for anybody in the league. I would also cry. then I would take a dump in a ziploc bag and hurl it at brad treliving. After i get out of jail for that I would do it again except with a bigger bag with more poo in it.
I would hate to see either player leave. But if I had to chose one to trade for a player like stamkos I would move Monahan ages before I even thought of moving Gaudreau.
I hope both of them stick around and retire as flames.

FWIW (and not a worth a lot) Flames have 2 scouts at tonight's Jets/Lightning game. Maybe nothing as Conroy was in Winnipeg last night to watch the LEM vs Moose game (which generated the Rychel discussion)

Maybe conny is scouting the jets. Jets have to decide between Ladd and Byfgulien and prevailing opinion is that they can't afford both. Ladd is logical keeper but contract discussions broke down. If BT wants to shake things up, that would be an interesting start.

Russell for Reichel, Hudler+Bennett+pick for a signed Stamkos and since I'm dreaming, our third round pick for another teams first round pick!
Even though the flames are playing like poop, this is still a pretty entertaining season.

I can totally see why Price would be the best player in the league, though I personally need to see one more season at the level he displayed last year and a better playoff run (the Habs need to at least make the SCF, this should be their year as their advanced stats are top-tier)
I assume that's sufficient to explain what part I disagree with. The Toews part.
