Sorry, I guess my example was not clear. Say rust-eze bumper care decides to buy ad space on a jersey, but a player on the team has a contract to only endorse scuff-b-gone (direct competitor to rust-eze), could this run into any legal ramifications?
(at first it made sense my head)

Just my opinion: The player represents the team who makes the endorsement deal for the jersey. He'd wear it regardless of a personal sponsorship. No conflict. If he wears a hat of a competing brand say, during an interview or a photo session, then there is a conflict.

A couple fun, to me, related stories:

When Tim Lincecum was with the SF Giants he was sponsored by Reebok. The shirts the players wore under their jerseys were Nike, and had a swoosh logo in the middle on the neckline. Tim would cut this out. When his deal with Reebok ended, and he signed with Nike, he stopped cutting the logos out.

When the 1992 Dream Team was accepting their gold medals, they all partially unzipped their Reebok jackets to cover up the Reebok logo, as most of them were Nike guys. Michael Jordan, Charles Barkley, and Magic Johnson covered up the jackets with American flags, just to be sure Reebok wouldn't show.

The NBA agreement has specific non compete clauses but only for select brands. For example the tv network, spalding and a couple others are protected.

Ticketmaster, a league sponsor, is not protected and as such Stubhub, a competitor, are allowed to sponsor the Sixers.
