I was talking to my season ticket rep about something else and I asked him bluntly about the arena, and he also gave me the impression that something was coming very, very soon. Like be on the edge of your seat kind of soon (he didn't actually say this). This was in November.

Things seemed to be much closer than they were, goalposts kept moving, and new roadblocks were put up. It will be very, very soon.

The acquisition is based on this plan (approved 2010). You could probably say it was this plan that likely got the Flames thinking about this site, not the other way around.

When the NHL increased the space behind the net, the whole design went out of whack.

Am I the only person here who thinks this location would be awful? No matter what they do to Crow/Bow, it will be not much better to get to and from the arena, especially if you live in the east or down south.
Sure, it'll be pretty. You can admire it as you sit in traffic for an hour after each game.

Disagree. Crowchild Trail reno, combined with putting it at the intersection point of two major transportation throughways is not going to be a problem, IMO. Especially with quicker access to the Ring Road when the SW leg gets built (if you don't already go up Bow Trail to Sarcee and onto Stoney).
More importantly is how they build the on-ramps and merge lanes into/away from the arena. That will be the key.

What does the city currently own there?

Yes but neither of those go east. I'm not taking the ring road all the way around and Crow leads west. Any options going east suck.
Also, sometimes there are both Flames games and Stamps games... NIGHTMARE.

It's not just you, that's what I thought too.
And a quick search shows that Bunk did say the City owned everything already on October 26th, 2014.

So what's wrong with traveling down Eastward on 9th Ave or Memorial Drive? Both take you to where you need to go, and will not likely be rush-hour level traffic when a game is done.
Also, the crossover between a Stamps game and a Flames game would happen so infrequently I doubt it would figure into major reconstruction plans for traffic throughputs.

^^ I was perhaps technically wrong - I should have said was in control of all the land. Something like a right of first refusal with a pending purchase and sale agreement on this remaining piece.

No kidding. Any time teams move to a new stadium in a different area some fans will get the shaft while others will benefit.
