Re-read the article. It says nothing about games, only the non-gaming menu stuff. Here's a quote from kotaku:
"A Microsoft spokesperson told me after the publication of this article that the company is certain that Kinect gesture control will work for movies, ESPN and other "entertainment" features before the sensor is launched. As I originally reported, that is not an implemented feature yet. The spokesperson was not able to provide any update on the Kinect's tolerance of a person who sits while playing games."
Clearly Microsoft isn't making any promises about playing games while sitting down.
Here's another confirmed bombshell about the Kinect that Microsoft kept on the downlow - 2 players only. That's another huge issue with Kinect that can't be ignored.

i haven't seen the 2 player thing; interesting though if true. google search coming up.
regarding the games...i guess i wasn't obvious with the green sarcasm text. why would dance, sports, and other movement games like fitness ones be played while sitting on the couch? and where did it say that traditional controllers were obsolete?
with all of these issues that you and others have with kinect, i gather that it is a pass for you and others on this thread to actually buy one which is the point of a free market. it does make me wonder what kind of install base penetration would be considered a success.
as for the driving game shot, actually the controllers work fine in every burnout iteration.
quick edit: after a google search, there is a conflict about the 2 or 4 or more simultaneous player thing.
The camera technology can detect an unlimited number of people, so if it's programmed in such a way, it can process and render more than two-players at a time. At the current time, Microsoft hasn't revealed how many players Kinect will support, but last year they did mention it could and would allow for 4-player gaming. PrimeSense did state that they do not know how many players Microsoft currently has Kinect setup to handle. With Kinect and the PrimeSense demonstration two completely separate entities, but the camera itself can detect a limitless number of people and if the software is designed to do so, process them all. So, in theory, if Microsoft developed the software of Kinect to process 4-8 players, it could feasible do so.
i guess only time will tell.
