Okay, but Benson isn't even included in their current, non-compliant, 21 man roster
Plus, he is league minimum, so whoever replaced him (if he were) would cost at least as much

Awesome that the oilers will have 0 cap for TDL acquisitions.

And their whole team is half a dozen guys - one or two key injuries and they are immediately a bubble team

Imagine vying for a depth role on the Oilers and being deemed unfit and cut.....that's really got to hit home in a serious way.

I'm expecting we see Puljujarvi moved in the coming days for a draft pick (likely 3rd rounder) to free up cap space.

He's going to have to pass through waivers to be sent down and they don't have room to keep him on the roster. I wonder if this is their way of stashing him in hopes they can quietly pass him through waivers when he comes off LTIR.

It's always been that way. MacTavish drove drunk and killed someone, and he was still a hero there until he did a bad job as GM. Priorities.

What if they just put pullyourRV on waivers to see if anyone picks him up?
Would it be that the contract would be gone and he would be replaced by a cheaper player?
If he cleared waivers he would go to Bakersfield, and if claimed he would cost nothing to move.
What am I missing?

How many times did they have to tell Virtanen that no he wouldn't be on the team.
And what happens tomorrow when he shows up for practice?

I don’t think it’s that they can’t move JP, it’s that Holland is seeing if he can squeeze more than the 3rd or 4th rd pick, or cheaper reclamation project, that he would get in return.

I thought people were making this up but I tried and I literally cannot get them to a cap compliant state with more than 20 people on the roster even AFTER the removal of Mike Smith and Oscar Klefbom's cap hits... And God only knows what sort of witchcraft will be required to maximize the LTIR capture for those two guys.
... Welp, they can't ice a team, time to fold up the franchise, folks.

It's especially remarkable considering they don't even need to count the league's video review personnel against their cap.

They’re screwed if they get an injury that isn’t severe enough to be long term. If they need to bring someone up for a few games they can’t.
Imagine if Campbell gets a bruised ego. Do they play with 1 goalie?

No, if you waive a player now, you only receive about $1M (can't remember the exact number) of cap space. So Puljujarvi would still count for about $2M, plus they have to replace him with another player, who would cost, at minimum, $750M.
So the most they would save by waiving him is about $300k or so

And if they do get longer term injuries, all they can do is bring guys up from the minors. They won't be able to trade for anyone, unless the injured player isn't going to be coming back all season.
Oiler fans keep denying it, but they have no choice - they have to move either Puljujarvi or Barrie. And every GM knows it, which is why they will be taken to the cleaners when they do it

I think there is a version of events that has them with 21 players and less than 200 dollars (not 200 thousand dollars) of cap. this version has one of Ryan or Janmark in the minors (along with Koekkoek who is on waivers right now). there would also flow potential bonus overages next year on Bouchard, Broberg and Holloway (obviously all a minor issue in the scheme of it)
even still that's pretty bone thin. 21 players, maxed out due to LTIR and essentially no cap- as I understand that really even a couple guys with minor owies or suspensions and you can't dress a full roster?

Will be no worries about being healthy scratched for any Oiler this year so they can all be lazy and there’s nothing Woody can do about it.
