Ummmm...when were the Oilers close to the playoffs?

They have been pure garbage since they started their second rebuild in the 2008/09 season, finishing:

11th
15th
15th
14th
12th

They haven't been close to the stage the Flames are at (i.e. in a playoff position with less than 10 games to go in the season).

Nice.

But but....how are we going to replace Cammy's goals?

(it was a good question at the time)

Now, that hit on Monahan... WTF!!!! Why did no one kill Ritchie after that hit? I was in my basement screaming at no one to send in McGratten. Fighting might be dead, but that Ritchie needs his scull caved in.
Not the best time to go after Ritchie especially now that the Flames are fighting for the playoff spot. Besides Jones was not a fighter but he went to Ritchie probably telling him next time Bollig will kick his butt next time they play and there's nothing on the line.
Team goal is more important right now and their goal is to make the playoff.

Moreover, since when were the Maple Leafs ever rebuilding?

The point here is that the Flames have improved (the Oilers have not at any point in their rebuild), and based on the projected anticipated improvement of their young players, should also continue to improve (The Maple Leafs have for a long time now been a veteran team without this internal mechanism for natural progression).

I don't see the comparisons as remotely close.

The guys on HockeyCentral at Noon (Millard, Kypreos, MacLean) just opened the show with about 8 minutes of talk about the Flames.

Maclean claims he always knew Russell was going to raise his game to this level, from the time he was 18. He makes the safe statement that our success is just about "everyone contributing." Kypreos scoffs at him and says it's about our defense joining the rush. Goes on to say scouts around the league now are not necessarily saying we want the defenseman with size, but looking for guys who can skate. Kypreos makes the Gaudreau/Kane comparison.

I don't get how there was 4 stars basically in the crease defending 2 flames players and nobody taking Diaz. That was a fun goal and terrible defense as a team by the stars, not to mention, why was the goal so far outside of his net. Crazy play, great result for Diaz. Big confidence booster there.

Backlund was doing a great job "getting held up" by 3 of those guys lol. Was a great pick.

Lots of credit needs to go to bouma on the Diaz goal. After getting knocked to the ice he held a Dallas player's stick under him during the play. It not only prevented that player from getting a stick in the way on the wraparound but another Dallas player was fenced in by the held stick so he couldn't get to the post in time to prevent the goal... He ended up tripping over the held stick attempting to get there. Basically, bouma took out two Dallas defenders while lying on his stomach.

That Diaz goal was beautiful. Reminded me of the Jagr one the day before... but with the blob of 6 players in front.

any news of a suspension or at least a hearing about the hit last night? It was a brutal play that needs to get more attention than it did or has been so far.

Flames twitter called it the #RaphAround. Brilliant.

Bouma's armpit should get an assist -- Nemeth was literally pulling on his stick with two hands but could not get it free from the sprawled out Bouma. Thanks Lance.

I would have been livid if that was a none call against the Flames. But...

Even worse was the guy who went to cover Jones despite Jones going off for a line change. That left Diaz alone to walk right in.

Dallas had terrible coverage all game long. They are a one trick pony.

But Seguin's goal, which was clearly offside, was a gift from the refs to Dallas.

Question - on the Hudler goal - which was a delayed penalty call - he basically bounced it in the net off a Dallas defenders legs. But does Dallas need to have control of the puck to be whistled for the penalty? Otherwise technically the puck touching a Dallas player should have whistled the play dead.
