So basically....One of Bear, Reschny, or Cootes and 90% of this board is happy....?

I certainly want a centre but I also wouldn't be unhappy with one of Carbonneau or Lakovic.
Jack Nesbitt also seems to be in the range.

That is: Did they consider the notion that had Schaefer played a full slate of games they would have picked apart his game more and perhaps he wouldn’t have been as firmly entrenched at No. 1?

“Well,” said one NHL head scout, “what is the old saying, ‘Familiarity breeds contempt?' I suppose it’s possible, but I really don’t think so. You could say he only played two games for Canada [at the WJC] but he was soooooo good in those two games. He didn’t just play well for a 17 year old; he was the best player on the ice.”
LOL, it definitely would have. That's exactly what happened to Misa. Five years from now, people are going to look back on this draft class and wonder how a defenseman who played 17 games went before a fast, smart, skilled, 2-way center with size who scored over 2 pt/g as a 17 year old.

And it won't be because Schaefer disappoints, Misa is just going to be that good, and probably very soon.

it actually says 3/4. The typeface is a bit unclear, but it does say 3 not 8.

How do you figure?

At the start of the season, Misa was ranked behind Hagens, Flondell, Schaefer and sometimes others. He was usually more like 5th or 6th in the rankings. Now he is a clear 2nd. Doesn't look like contempt to me.

Like this insight from McKenzie

Quote:
On TSN’s final list, of the 14 players ranked between Nos. 33 and 46, all but two received some first round consideration from our panel of scouts.

Half of those in that group received multiple first-round votes, most notably Team USA U-18 program winger No. 33 Jack Murtagh (five votes) , No. 34 Ravensbergen (four), No. 35 Russian right winger Alexander Zharovsky (five), No. 36 Russian right winger Daniil Prokhorov (3), No. 39 Czechia winger Vaclav Nestrasil (three) of Muskegon in the USHL and at No. 46, the giant 6-foot-6, 215-pound Minnesota high school centre Mason West (two).

This suggests that those prospects between Nos. 33 and 46 may well be interchangeable with the players ranked in the top 32, most notably those in the 26-32 range.

- While scouts are bemoaning having only one potentially elite defenceman in TSN’s Top 10 – Schaefer at No. 1 – four of the five prospects ranked between 11 and 15 are defencemen and some of them may be threats to jump into the top 10 for a team that may be predisposed to want a blueliner.

I do think there will be tons of variation amongst teams' lists. Those in the 35 -42 range on McKenzie's list in particular I could see in the first round. A fair number of the mocks seem to have McKinney up in the 20s (who I could see the Flames taking, depending on how the board plays out).

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.

so using Bobs list for our picks:

18 C Braeden Cootes
32 D Henry Brzustewicz
54 R Nathan Behm
80 R John Mooney

Yay or nay?

I think Schaefer in any other year with more top D prospects wouldn’t be 1st OA. I still think he’s a top 3 talent, but the Isles and Sharks both need a franchise d man.

I've always liked Bob's lists. Make a lot of sense. One of the few who's actually a proper insider -- even if mostly retired.

There has to be a way to move into the 8-12 range, please Conroy find a way to do it! Not interested in the smallish centres available at 18, find a way to get us into that 8-12 range.

Why not get 14 from CLB and get Cootes and Reschny at 14 and 18? Then swing hard at 32 with Ryabkin. Then at 54 take Frolov the goalie. Then have at er with the remaining picks.

I’d go Reschny over Cootes

you had me at Cootes and Reschny at 14 and 18, but then you just had to ruin it with Ryabkin lol.
