He was with him for 9 years, if he had very different views, especially with the overall direction Tre took it is hard to imagine he is sticking through that for 9 years.
I get that people want to be hopeful but part of the reason you hire a AGM is based on who he worked with and the success the team had. I am not sure why we would ignore that now.

Well considering he took an interview with Buffalo I think it's obvious Conroy was looking for his next opportunity. I'm just saying Conroy is his own many with his own views and ideas. Treliving was brought him in after, and while I'm sure they have great professional relationship it doesn't appear Brad's his mentor or anything and won't do things his own way.

Good for Conroy well deserved, hes got work cut out for him. If his first coach hire is Q that will be a perfect start.

I'm happy for Conroy. I believe he truly loves this city and the Calgary flames.
Do we know when it will be and? I would assume Tuesday at the earliest

Will wish Connie the best. I personally disliked the deal in which he was first acquired at the time, and I doubt I am alone. But he worked to win everyone over be it teammates, coaches, managers or fans. I can't think of many who will want to win because they genuinely love the team and the city like he does.

Don't like the idea of Quenneville. Might be too stubborn like another veteran coach, Darryl Sutter was. Plus all the baggage.

I am glad we got Conroy but I still don't like that deal.

Reading the stories about how hard Conroy went to bat for guys like Johnny, Rasmus and Phillips makes me feel that this isn’t gonna be anything like MacTavish

I had a dream back in April where I was in a room with mikael backlund treliving and backlund was telling treliving to make Conroy the GM.
Good for him. He likes our city and our market. He’s youngish and will have a good understanding of the american market.
I’m happy we have a guy like him stewarding the org.
I’m excited for him to hire the coach and his first ever draft pick.

And a lot of the time, choosing someone just because they worked under someone great translates into absolutely nothing.
It’s not like Treliving wasn’t a complete disaster. It was time to go, but he had some positives (I know in your mind Sutter was the greatest and everyone else, players and management alike, were terrible, so let’s skip that whole thing). He made some mistakes. Conroy will make some mistakes. I’m sure over the last 9 years he’s learned from Treliving’s and will spend the next however many not making the same ones.
How many Cup-winning GMs exclusively worked on championship teams before they won a Cup as the head guy? Let me know.

I agree it is a risk to hire someone who worked for a top GM, you hope they take the skills they learned while at that organization but it is quite possible they were just there for the ride while others did the work.
But I think we can all agree that in sports it is much more often that people that are hired as coaches or GM's come from successful organizations, whether that is the right way to go or not.
I would imagine there are zero GM's that worked on championship teams exclusively but not sure why that means we can't have questions about Conroy and what his approach will be.
I have never said Sutter was the greatest not sure where you are making that up from.

Maloney has been around for 7 years. He’d know if Conroy was just on for the ride or not and it’s been pretty clear by all of the recommendations that Conroy was doing the work.

Whereas it didn’t feel like Treliving ever really learned from his mistakes, Conroy may well be in a better position to do so. Here’s hoping this signals the end of high priced veteran UFA’s.
If there is one thing that worries me about Conroy is whether he can distance himself from his players. For the most part, BT waited to move players until they told him they wanted out. They say not to fall in love with your own players.

My concern is that Maloney and the owners want someone to continue the direction of the team.
I have no doubt Conroy has put in nothing but 100% effort in his roles with the team. I think he is likely as prepared as anyone in terms of the work you put in. I have no concerns about him not doing the things needed to fulfill the role of GM.
My questions are more around what is his vision for the team, ie to continue the path of mediocrity and hope we get lucky in the play-offs "because anything can happen", does he think this roster is good enough and just was held back by bad coaching and/or bad luck?, does he think it needs a full rebuild?, something in between?
My concern is that his many years with Treliving and how the team operated then it is likely he is more on the stay the course path, than the rebuild path I think the team needs.
We will see which is why I said the hire was fine, but isn't exciting for me as a fan of the team and hope it works out.

No actually they did not know at the time. The owner knew and didn’t want to disrupt the playoff run. He told JQ and SB he was going to handle it.
