Left unsaid was Trump’s own past admiration for the German leader. Nearly a year ago to the day, on August 18, 2015, Trump gave an interview with TIME in which he said, unprompted, that Merkel was “probably the greatest leader in the world today.”

At the time, Trump was criticizing U.S. leaders for paying to support Ukraine’s government against Russian-backed separatists, while those in the region did little to help. “Germany’s like sitting back silent collecting money and making a fortune with probably the greatest leader in the world today, Merkel,” Trump told TIME in 2015. “She’s fantastic,” he added. “Highly respected.”

I think what amazes me about this enitre story, other than the amazing reporting, is how flagrant Trump is. His son is smart enough to register, but he isn't? The Bondi thing, the paintings. His ego is so out of control it blinds him to basic logic it seems

Quote:
Donald Trump’s charitable foundation — which has been sustained for years by donors outside the Trump family — has never obtained the certification that New York requires before charities can solicit money from the public, according to the state attorney general’s office.

Under the laws in New York, where the Donald J. Trump Foundation is based, any charity that solicits more than $25,000 a year from the public must obtain a special kind of registration beforehand. Charities as large as Trump’s must also submit to a rigorous annual audit that asks — among other things — whether the charity spent any money for the personal benefit of its officers.

If New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman (D) finds that Trump’s foundation raised money in violation of the law, he could order the charity to stop raising money immediately. With a court’s permission, Schneiderman could also force Trump to return money that his foundation has already raised.

The Trump campaign did not respond to a request for comment Thursday.
Quote:
Experts on charity law said they were surprised that Trump’s foundation — given its connections to a wealthy man and his complex corporation — did not register to solicit funds.

“He’s a billionaire who acts like a thousandaire,” said James J. Fishman, a professor at Pace University’s law school in White Plains, N.Y. He said Trump’s foundation seemed to have made errors, including the lack of proper registration, that were more common among very small family foundations.

“You wouldn’t expect somebody who’s supposed to be sophisticated, and brags about his business prowess, would run his foundation like this,” Fishman said.
Quote:
Trump’s son Eric has his own foundation, also headquartered in New York, which raises money from the public through an annual golf tournament.

Unlike his father’s charity, however, the Eric Trump Foundation has registered to solicit funds in the state and files an annual audit report. The two Trump foundations share an accountant, Donald Bender of the firm WeiserMazars. A spokeswoman for the firm declined to comment on Thursday.

It's also relevant because it provided the perfect illustration of not just who he is but how he handles these things (poorly). He can't resist taking the bait and saying something stupid, offensive or both.
He's proven again and again that he sees women merely as objects. If women aren't young, fit, and beautiful, they aren't worth his time. It isn't a low blow when half of the people he's campaigning to "represent" are women, for whom he clearly has no respect.

Is he really going to worry about women's issues? Equal pay, maternity leave, access to health care, etc., given that he sees women as objects, treats maternity leave as a nuisance, and just assumed it was his wives' job to take care of their children.

Women are eye candy or an irritant to him, he doesn't treat any of them with respect, and that's a huge issue in this election.

Think of the political capital that Clinton could get from vowing to refuse SuperPACs in 2020.

Back on this topic, the GOP debases the conversation by arguing "shame on you on behalf of the Benghazi victims" and the Democrats follow them into the mud with their own, more moderate, smear from a fallen soldiers family.

It's an election about trustworthiness; arguing "we're better than them, at least" is such weak tea.
But this wasn't just any fallen soldier's family. This is a Muslim family, a family who if Trump had his way, would never have made it into the US at all, let alone would their son have ever had the opportunity to fight and die for this country.

There aren't any policy stances to attack when it comes to Trump, because he can't stick to one plan for more than maybe a few hours or days at a time. So the only way to prove he's ill-qualified is to point to his own words and actions.

"If You Vote For Trump, Then Screw You."

Here is a very strongly worded GQ article about this election. There seems to be a rising sense of incredulity among sane Americans that anyone would vote Trump. Well, now myself as a Canadian can see tens of millions of selfish ignorant morons that defy all logic and will vote for this man. Truly, my disgust with Americans as a people has never been stronger, a sentiment which will soon be world wide and probably permanent.

At the end of the article is Keith Olbermann's 176 reasons why Trump cannot be President. Many can't stand Keith Olbermann, but every single thing he says about Trump is true, because everything is based on Trump's words.

The phrase "unfit to be President" was basically invented for someone like Donald Trump.

I think it speaks to exactly what 40%+ of the populace resents where most act like it is somehow more advantageous being a career politician, with very few real successes to your name, rather than a businessman with success out the wazoo. Being able to speak your mind, call it like it is, act like a good old fashioned person is exactly what is attracting as a candidate.

Millions and millions of Americans are tired of losing, and want a president who knows how to win and bring things back to how they used to be, regardless of how Utopic that is. There is a reason they resent the establishment.

A cease and desist letter from the city of Phoenix. Waiting to see how he tries to turn this to make himself look good.

Quote:
The city of Phoenix sent a cease-and-desist demand to Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump's campaign Thursday.

The letter alleges Trump's campaign "has violated federal and state law by using copyrighted materials in a campaign advertisement."

The advertisement in question originally aired Sept. 20, 2016, and it contains footage of uniformed Phoenix police officers shaking hands with Trump.

The letter states that the officers did not consent to the use of their images, and that the ad "unmistakably and wrongfully suggests that Phoenix and the officers support or endorse Mr. Trump's campaign."

So Trump is mainly attractive to losers? Can't say I disagree with that.

You might even consider them deplorable. But keep calling them hillbillies, racists, and white trash. Then ask how that worked out for the Brexit

Ducay has a point here. When Trump won the Republican nomination we have to ask, how has the Republican party caused this that 16 other candidates lost? And if Trump wins the presidency then same question to the democrats. What have they done in the last 8 years to cause this? The answer is not 'because the Trump people are stupid"

Exactly, people act like Trump is the "disease". Trump is merely the symptom, and completely reflective of the underlying electorate and their current state.

Hell, I'm Canadian and I'm tired of a lot of the same things American's are tired of, so I don't blame them.

It's a fair point that a lot of people are sick of the establishment, and you can't blame 'em, but you don't fix that by voting for someone that is going to screw you over far, far worse than the 'establishment candidate' ever will.

Especially when the 'anti-establishment candidate' is actually part of the establishment that you hate and actually boasts about being a part of it.

This is so much bull#### it beyond belief. That 40% of the population has voted the clowns who ran up the debt and ruined the system, and they've been doing it for decades.

I also have to laugh at Trump being successful. I sure wish I could fail six times (go bankrupt) and be called a success. Then to claim that Trump is calling it like it is? PT Barnum was right. There is a sucker born every minute and they all grow up to be conservative voters.

Millions of Americans are doing nothing more than cheering for their team rather than actually using their brains and actually weighing the character of their candidate. It's embarrassing to sit down with these people and ask them some very simple values questions and then ask them to explain their decision to vote for Trump, a man who conflicts directly with those same values. The loyalty to their team is blinding them.

But the first question is... how did Trump become the captain of the team?

Playing on the fears of people terrified of a future where white people are not the majority. Trump had zero platform for people to vote for, other than xenophobic and nationalistic narratives. These same narratives are the reason why newspapers that haven't endorsed a Democrat in a century are now lining up behind Clinton. They see how Trump won and the danger he poses to the country.

Of all the things that detractors say, this is probably the easiest way to highlight you have little understanding of business, corporate structure, or the ability to question and understand the info put out by the media and just blatantly accept the facts. (Not you specifically, but a lot of people use this argument)

A handful (6 or less let's say) of Trump's 300+ entities went bankrupt, yes. However given then new/small business failure rate far exceeds 50% (I want to say it is 70%+), his batting average is pretty damn stellar.

Trump supporters are cultists, so if you wanna think that's stupid or not is up to you. But yeah a reminder....

https://twitter.com/bennyjohnson/sta...10827617886208

Plus just think about his coalition for a second. You have the evangelicals, strongly pro-Israel and anti gay rights; you have the alt-right, strongly anti-semetic and pro gay rights; and then you have the people who simply hate Hillary, who know Trump is a disaster but hate her more so they justify it. I said it way back when in the primaries, but Trump can run to the left of any position Bernie had and he'd be fine. They are just convinced he is their savior, they are very weak people who are easy to prey on because of their fear and desperation, much of it unfounded. He won the GOP nomination with a path that has been there for years. That path is probably the thing that splinters the party and makes an unelectable party even less electable. Thankfully for them they have gerrymandering so they can continue obstructing at will until people finally have enough.

Why didn't these papers step up last year to stop Trump? Has he gotten crazier? I'm just saying there are many tests that Trump has passed and somehow people keep supporting him. People lined up at the primaries and voted for him over other just as crazy and racist Republicans. Why? I agree with you that Republicans are voting blindly now.. but how he won fascinates me.

The idea concerns the fact that this country wants nostalgia. They want to go back as far as they can - even if it's only as far as last week. Not to face now or tomorrow, but to face backwards. And yesterday was the day of our cinema heroes riding to the rescue at the last possible moment. The day of the man in the white hat or the man on the white horse - or the man who always came to save America at the last moment - someone always came to save America at the last moment - especially in "B" movies. And when America found itself having a hard time facing the future, they looked for people like John Wayne. But since John Wayne was no longer available, they settled for Ronald Reagan and it has placed us in a situation that we can only look at -like a "B" movie.

Come with us back to those inglorious days when heroes weren't zeros. Before fair was square. When the cavalry came straight away and all-American men were like Hemingway to the days of the wondrous "B" movie. The producer underwritten by all the millionaires necessary will be Casper "The Defensive" Weinberger - no more animated choice is available. The director will be Attila the Haig, running around frantically declaring himself in control and in charge. The ultimate realization of the inmates taking over at the asylum. The screenplay will be adapted from the book called "Voodoo Economics" by George "Papa Doc" Bush. Music by the "Village People" the very military "Macho Man."
