Ducks send Lovejoy to the Capitals for Wingels. Was unable to add a fwd during UFA but added 2 D so a simple position swap. We get the benefit of getting a 2 way deal while Hesla gets a player rated slightly higher.

Ducks also pick up Cam Ward and 7.5 mill cheese for free. We tried for a backup goalie a few times in the UFA bidding but missed out. With Price being injured last year I wanted an upgrade no Gustavsson. Ward will fit in nicely this year and then likely be released next summer. We had the cap space and are happy to add a guy who can pick up the slack if Price goes down.

Needed a dman with a good enough rating to slide into the top 4 on D. Wingels is a bit redundant on my forward corps.

Wild trade Mikael Granlund+3rd+5th to Phoenix for JVR.

JVR solidifies our 2nd line. Ideally still want another top 6 winger, but if not Callahan can handle that.

Coyotes had a bunch of wingers, but were really thin at the centre ice position.

This move add's depth to the organization.

I thought it was reasonable... a small depth move to prove I'm putting my stamp on the team, so to speak. But it wasn't a necessary deal, I'll give you that. I don't see much room for improvement with the Isles.
