You know I was sitting on the toilet taking an Andy Greschner, and reflecting on the events of the last few days and how amazing the police and fire fighters and military and government were in dealing with this crisis. And how the people had done an amazing job of rallying around the displaced, and I thought to myself that Calgarian's are just so much better to a person then Andy Greschner.
Well done CP! Mission accomplished. This thread is solidly in second place on the Andy Greschner google page. Ezra Levant went after him too, but he's only in fifth. Amateur.
I wanted to make the observation that while I had to be on the road today and got caught in a 54.5 km route to just wind up back at home, that most everyone was so gracious on the road today. Never seen it like that in Calgary. Everyone should keep up the positive, ingratiating treatment. We will need it, based on our road infrastructure damage.
Andy Greschner is obviously a d##### bag. But who cares what one f***face has to say?
This thread went from being awesome...to a reddit/4chan like hit squad (and an effective hit squad it is...if not a bit scary)
I’m obviously not excusing what he said, I just think the energy/focus is better served on continuing to help each other get through this mess. It’s been inspiring to follow along.

I've just gone through the last dozen or so pages upon waking up. I cannot believe that in todays digital age, people like Andy Greschner think that they can say whatever they want, post it publicly and not expect people to find a record of it. What ever happened to peoples' critical thinking skills? Have these gone the way of the dodo bird? People in the UK have been prosecuted for making comments not to dissimilar on social media. People need to educate themselves. This guy clearly hasn't.
His apparent "apology" rings hollow for me as well. Now I absolutely do not advocate cyber-bullying in any way, but I do like CP's thoughts of highlighting his sublimely ridiculous comments and maybe he has friends and family that express their disappointment in a more personal way. But then again, maybe his friends and family agree with him. Irrespective, I like what has happened here.
I just cancelled my order of 3 forests, and placed my order with their competitor. Forest Mart.
HOLY CRAP! This might be the funniest thing I have read in a long time. Well done Pylon. You had me smiling really hard in the midst of this disaster. Good on you.

Oh, thats not good.
I have some people at work who are suggesting the same thing, since our facilities are intact (just no internet) and I am really worried about people getting in and out of downtown.
I mean, depending on water levels, transit is pretty much screwed from the south and east. Is the flyover even possible to have open?

Got a call from a pal in Elbow Park yesterday asking for help, looking for equipment. The parents farm off the Sheep wasn't hit hard so I managed to get a few gas pumps together, a few gen sets, and a pile of electric pumps. We even managed to get a water truck down that acted like a vac truck, draining out low lying alleyways as water was pumped out. We headed down to help a friend, and ended up going house to house pumping basements. We would finish one and someone next door would ask if we could help, so we would move the pumps and start all over. As of this morning all our equipment is still there running (except the water truck, it apparently blew a U joint).
There was a lot of carnage. Every single house with a basement in those areas has about 5 feet (or more) of water in it. It's hard to describe the problems people have there. I had to wade into a pitch black laundry room with a flashlight to shut off a water valve in one place (it was filling his basement while we pumped until we figured that out!) which scared the fata out of me. Floating valuables, mattresses, couches, dressers whatever was in the basement was underwater so if it was nailed down it was floating around.
That said, I met some really awesome Calgarians. Met a teacher (Mark) from EP Scarlett who was down there with students, going house to house offering help in any way he could. Great guy with some great kids doing anything they were asked; finding pumps not in use, locating hoses, shovelling, whatever. Met lots of other people handing out beer and food for anyone who wanted it.
The most annoying thing all day though was the people going down looking around. Countless cars, bikers and dog walkers which made it REALLY difficult for me to get around in a 1 ton truck/trailer. The only way in was through Marda Loop, which was totally gridlocked with people going to Safeway, shopping, and the gym. I was getting pretty frustrated at how non essential travel doesn't apply to you if you have to get your Saturday workout in. Anyways.
I'm a 4th generation Calgarian and the people here are tough as ####. There's a lot to clean up, but I tell you what. With the attitude I saw yesterday it won't take long for us to move on and get this behind us.
