Can't believe they lost it in the end. I left at the end of the second thinking they had it in the bag.
The difference between this season and last season has been the top players; the top scorers not scoring enough, and the top goalie not stopping enough. Seems like that struck again. Markstrom letting in goals he shouldn't, and nobody to win it in OT.

yep
I don't see vladar being worse, at the very least
and IF vladar shows he can hold the fort, options open up for you

Just finished watching the game. Kadri messed up in OT. After he made his pass to Huberdeau then floated off into the corner.
Markstrom’s 3rd goal against was shakey.
Win Thursday and we get 3 out of 4. Don’t have any choice but to move on and be ready for game 2.

this is the best way I can put it.. Markstrom is generally pretty good and competitive in net, he just finds way to lose games at key moments
people who say "but he's been good" or "better" aren't even wrong
he just still finds ways to lose
it might be a bad 2 minute stretch, or even 30 seconds where the fundamentals are MIA. but that's all it takes, and is usually the difference
he's paid and expected to make not all of those saves at key times, but at least some of them, and more than he has this season
that's the bottom line
if he's saving over 90% of the shots put his way, no matter how he gets to that number, the team is way better off and comfortably in the playoffs right now. but we need him at that number
it is the benchmark for nhlers, generally

They actually should trying to just let Markstrom get peppered. Obviously he can't handle low metric games. Let him face 40 a night and it could be a good thing.

Yup good enough. It's an 82-game schedule and only getting one point on a road trip game isnt going to dictate the outcome of this season, regardless of the opponent
Flames played a decent game. In the past 10-15 games, theyre probably the better team at least 3 out of every 4 games. Trajectory for this team continues to be upwards.
I don't know how some posters get so emotional over one point within that context. I get being disappointed, but I don't get the rage and "blow it up" comments after every loss.
I like this team. I like how it's constructed. I like the maturity of the players. I like the on-going improvement in the team game. I like Sutter's system. Come playoff time, I'm pretty sure I'll be willing to take this team over any other within the conference over a seven game series.
On to the next one.

I’m really not sure Calgary will make the playoffs. If they do I think they could be okay as I presume some of these guys will be more interested on a consistent basis but the inconsistency, something Sutter claims the “young guys are” (when it’s in fact the vets) might not get them into the playoffs.
Seriously, if they want to make the playoffs they legitimately need a win streak. This lose one win one lose one in OT BS will not cut it. And get some ####ing competition going in the line up. Easy decisions here. Phillips should be line 1 next game not even joking.

Markstrom wasn't good, and his play cost us a W.
But this game is on Sutter - Markstrom should never have been in the net in the first place. And the complete lack of preparation for OT is on the coaching as well.
Sutter is just being stubborn at this point, and he's sinking the season. As Mr.Coffee said above, there is no meritocracy this year, Sutter is just determined to prove that his way is the only way.
And it's too bad, because this team is close - it's right there, with a season-saving winning streak just waiting for them to take it. But making the necessary changes just isn't on the table.

How many times have they lost to bad teams? Tonight they lost to a Blues team ravaged by injury. If they make the playoffs, is this team good enough to do damage? In year 1 of the overhaul I don't think so. Does that mean punt on the season? No, but considering how this veteran group has faired in the first 42 games, its mind boggling that Sutter won't give some of the younger guys a legit extended run.

You don’t need to be a two time winning Stanley Cup coach to work out what went wrong last night and on too many occasions throughout most of the season.
It did look for a short period that Sutter helped Markstrom through an extended period of low confidence and poor play that stretched right back to the second round of the play-offs. It sure doesn’t look like it now though.
Going to Vladar now is the most obvious decision the coach can make now. I’m not saying don’t use Markstrom at all, but we really need to see a lot more of Vladar. We are in win right now mode and Markstrom isn’t cutting it and the future of goaltending on this team certainly does not lie with Markstrom who is breaking the back of what is admittedly a very mentally fragile team.

Your dreaming with a Sutter in Calgary. Dosen't matter the Sutter. Calgary needs to get over their Sutter love . We tried so many none really worked . Ya ya ya 2004 ... that is literally 19 years ago on a once in a lifetime Cinderella run. Calgary fans still hold on to that tho. . Treliving did the best he could with a terrible offseason but because it is solid on paper Dosen't mean it works on the ice. Thank #### this is Treliving last contract.

That there is the problem IMO. Calgary dosen't need to score that extra goal every game it's that 1 questionable goal more often than non is the problem.

lol.. maybe he means young in relation to him
vets have definitely shouldered the key mistakes in most of their recent losses
the team is 3/4 seasoned players, probably more
I'm failing to understand guys like Kadri who are determined in the o-zone, but can't seem to anticipate or understand how to defend an odd man rush going the other way
this too given that he has a 200 foot player reputation around the league
would love to see more smarts from the guys whose games are supposedly built around having that awareness and acumen
defensively they look like a young team learning the ropes sometimes. maybe Sutter wants their game to just.. mature
