McDavid wasn't great last night. Had one shot on net which was as low percentage as it gets. Pretty lucky 3 points as far as it goes but was pretty quiet else wise. If you're the flames, you take that game 10 out of 10 times knowing that you'd win it more often than not.

On the one hand that’s encouraging, knowing if flames perform that they should mop the floor with those bums up north.

usually when guys like mangiapane or lindholm get on the board they beat the Oilers . the key consistently appears to be getting top 6 scoring . which makes sense because our depth usually beats theirs
also they score on the PP and they definitely win that game . PP looked rusty after the 4 day break . I think that's solved with playing regular games again

This is laughable nonsense.
McDavid wasn’t even the best Oiler last night.
Would take McKinnon over McD every time.

Simple misplays led to the 3 goals against. Clean those up and the greasers don't even get a sniff.

But it’s not overblown, it’s just a fact. McDavid and Drai have consistently put up huge points against the flames. Flames haven’t been so lucky with their top scorers.

refs stop with the special treatment and he loses half his points. The Backlund penalty was a perfect example of why he is able to walk right to the net and score so much, it's either let him go and hope your goalie can stop the shot and he scores, or check him and get a penalty and he scores on the pp.
because you're not allowed to cleanly check, lift his stick or anything. Backlund was leaning on him, didn't even lift his arms/stick up, and he fell, Backs didn't do anything illegal and surely didn't cross check.
I don't understand why the league wants games to be like a boring all-star game with no physicality, or tough battles for the puck, or bodychecking, and slashing used to be to be when a players body is hit with a stick, a tap on the stick is a slash? please.

#### goals happen.

Coaching staff wants him to play that puck...Darryl even said so...you can't just let's teams dump it in, especially with McDavid coming in hot

hate the thread title..marky tried to stop the puck from rimming around to get possession like every goalie does on a dump in, where was the coverage on mcdavid? He did nothing wrong. Mcdavid always has puck luck everything is going in for him right now.

Agree. Markstrom gave the team a chance to win, the McDavid goal was just unlucky.

exactly. He doesn't try and stop it mcdavid probably gets a breakaway or at least room to walk in and he scores. It's about percentages, stopping the dump in or slowing it down makes it a smaller chance of a goal, than just letting them dump it in, gaining possession and scoring.

5-2 is pretty great and with seattle coming in tues we should be 6-2. It was really stupid to go from tues to saturday without a game while the oil played twice. It showed last night, they were rusty, the schedulers really know how to kill momentum

Bunk, he's a long way from the Gretzky, Lemiuex, Howe, Richard, Orr club.

I also didn't think Mcdavd was his usual self against us yesterday, I mean hes still obviously noticeable but his points were all of the fortunate variety, not of the dominant way he usually preforms against us.
I actually thought minus a few bad turnovers the D played pretty decent. I think that was Weegars worst game as a Flame and he wasn't even bad. Stone has been good for us this year but his decision making needs to be a touch quicker. I find he gets himself in trouble when hes unsure of where to go with the puck and it can often give the other team that split second to get in on the forecheck.
I didn't think any of our forwards played well yesterday minus Lucic. Lucic had one bad turnover in the neutral zone but other than that he played great. Everybody else can play a whole lot better. Also count me in the group that thinks Lewis is pretty useless at this point. I mean he isn't prone to making huge mistakes but he is really hindering that 3rd line and it seems to have affected Colemans presence in the O zone.
Markstrom stance hasn't changed after sleeping on it. That teams in his head and its pretty obvious. Played well last night but the gimmies got to stop, especially against that team. Have no issue with him trying to play the puck, but once he couldn't it was pretty clear he lost his composure and it led to him over playing the bad angle shot. It wasn't even a good shot by Mcdavid, it went dead centre of the net.

I think a distinction has to be made between previous editions of the Flames and this year's edition of the Flames. There's been a lot of turnover, especially at key positions.
The Flames beat themselves last night with 3 misplays. McDavid/Draisaitl points last night all basically came from gifts. It was not some monster performance from those two.
Marky was solid aside from one gaffe. To claim that the Oilers are "still in his head" because of that one play is silly. It ignores the 59 minutes where he was really solid.

It was a ring around the boards, there was no breakaway to be had.
There was nothing 'McDavid' about the goal, he scored because it slipped by Markstrom on the boards, then landed perfectly flat when it got to him, allowing him to get a quick shot off, then it slipped under Markstrom's arm.

What is with all the Oiler fans in the Dome last night? STH’s should be ashamed.
