Brouwer stood up for a teammate. It was the proper thing to do because of the heat of the moment and context of that particular situation and it wouldn't have mattered what else happened after that.

It was the RIGHT thing to do there. End of story.

Ref's hand was already up. Brouwer didn't just rob us of a power play - his actions allowed them to continue with a man advantage. But for Smith's stellar play, he could have cost us two points.
Brown just skates up and dumped our Captain.. Regardless of what went on between them prior, someone had to do it. I'm sick of watching player take liberties on us and getting away with it. I was more than fine with Brouwer retaliating

Was at the game. That display by Doughty was unbelievable, it kept going on and on. Even King's fans were wondering what the hell was going on

I guess I'm in the minority too. I thought the Brouwer play was pretty bad.

Yes, he stuck up for a teammate, I get that, good for him. But it was a tie game late in the game and the play he responded to wasn't really that bad. And the call for a Flames PP was already made. I just wasn't a fan. It's great the Flames won in OT so we can look back on what a character play that was but I'm still not a fan. In the first period? Sure. In a blowout game? Sure. In a tie game late in the 3rd?.....not a fan.

For the record, I really, really liked Brouwer's game tonight. I thought in his role he was great. That one play, at that point of the game, I just wasn't a fan. Just my 2 cents.

You left out the fact the Flames would have also went into the OT on a PP. Sure, Brouwer stepping up is good and any Flames fan wants him to be the player he can be - and it may be a legitimate argument such a play inspires the team and helps momentum more than the special teams situation - but this situation in particular offered an advantage.

I think either perspective can agree to look at what Brouwer did and hope that it's part of an upward trend for #36.

Won't end up that high, but I expect him to be around 7-10th and near a PPG. And definitely higher than the overrated Draisaitl.

Great game.... on another note, can we rename this forum Brouwer Puck? I don't think there's a thread in here where isn't mentioned.

I know we could have had a PP, but piece of crap Brown just shoved down our captain. Yeah, we lost a PP for OT, but Brouwer did the right thing retaliating imo. We’re showing others that we won’t take their crap.

Jagr is the first Flame that I've seen opponents respect to that degree when he has the puck in their zone on the half boards. Johnny is close but i see opponents rush him on occasion. When Jagr had the puck today, the defending player just backed off.

Let's be honest, the Flames 3 on 3 in OT is already a big advantage.

A PP can go nowhere quickly. The Flames score most of their OT goals on the rush for a reason, they know how to victimize a sloppy play.

... and Brown was getting called for it.
Now if Brouwer had merely challenged for a fight instead I would fully approve.

Any how - not that it really matters with how things turned out.

I get that point of view. I really do. I'm a big fan of sticking up for teammates.

But tonight, in this instance? A tie game, late in the 3rd, on basically a shove? When you know you're going on the PP? I guess I'd rather just take the PP late in the 3rd and into OT.

If the Flames lost would fans like me sit here and say, 'hey they lost, but Brouwer stuck up for someone.' I wouldn't. I think I'd say 'wow, they were gift-wrapped a PP late in the game but Brouwer decided to take an offsetting penalty.'

Like I said: I thought Brouwer played quite well tonight. I'm not bashing his game. But I also see both sides. Just glad they won.
