Might be worth it for Children’s Services to pay Bruce’s home a little visit and ensure everything is above board.
Pretty big red flag. I don’t know many people who publicly advocate abusing children.

For some reason I thought this loser was an elected MLA. He's not, he's just Danielle's mouth piece for this farce of a consultation. That makes him much easier to get rid of, and makes me question why Smith has any interest at all in keeping him around. Does she want to hear what he'll say next?

Bruce is the Executive Director of the Premier’s Office.
He serves at the pleasure of the premier, and she could fire him if she wanted to.
She prefers to say the matter is closed.

Bruce probably gets paid the equivalent of 2 or 3 full time teachers and can't even handle a single question from ONE high schooler.
Man child. Should be nowhere near an office of such a high position.

Nenshi said this morning that McAllister is getting paid $825K for this job.

If I got paid 200k a year as a teacher, I’d field well reasoned and challenging questions from teenagers all day without throwing a hissy fit. Heck I already did that with dumb questions from 120 student a semester for less than half that amount.

I believe that value that Nenshi quoted is the total value of his contract, not an annual salary.

Yup and I expect there is a poison pill in the contract if the next government fires him.
Hopefully he can be terminated with cause and given no additional money... like for publicly suggesting violence to a child.

My wife is a teacher aide in a school for younger kids. She said parents are just the worst. Kids show up in diapers not potty trained yet. Parents just not parenting and it’s not just ESL or poor families. Have to change crappy diapers while trying to teach 30+ kids.
Kids will huck chairs at other kids. I am constantly telling her to kick the kid in the face, you don’t need this job. Fata this. I would totally poison the kids brains against their parents. She said she can’t let down the other ones, it’s not fair to them. Every day, another story. Rich kids with no food so have to scramble to find some. There’s no teaching with that. Thank god my kid is in private.

So if parents of kids 12 and under get the money...that would mean busboobs must think 13 year olds are mature enough to fend for themselves and are capable little human beings, unless its decisions around names/pronouns/etc in which case they are not at all capable and cannot be trusted.
So which is it?

The actual contract is available online:
https://www.alberta.ca/system/files/...-2023-1212.pdf
Term is from December 11, 2023 to December 30, 2027.
Base pay of $7,088.13 biweekly plus benefits and expenses.
So it seems the math is base pay of just over $184,000 per year for 4 years plus benefits gets you to the $825,000 total figure being cited by Nenshi.
As to the comment itself, I am not normally one to be an alarmist about speech, but it seems to me a much more problematic issue than what can be brought to an end by a seemingly fake 'apology' posted on 'X' and the Premier stating that therefore the matter is closed.
The Executive Director, Premier's Southern Alberta Office while engaged in the cutting off of clearly protected speech under section 2 of the Charter declared to an identified individual high school student:
Quote:
"...Evan...I applaud you coming here to speak...I don't applaud how you're trying to speak, it's not making any sense so we're gonna move along..."
|
Then after Evan continues to pose his question seeking it to be answered even though his mic has been cut off, the highly placed government official said to the teenager in front of the assembled public...and being published to the internet:
Quote:
"I know you'd love some chaos, but your parents should turn you over your [sic] knee."
|
There is no real way around the fact that a government official who reports only to the Chief of Staff of the Premier and then the Premier herself, publicly declared that because he did not agree with the manner in which the kid was exercising his right to free speech, he ought to be subjected to a criminal domestic assault by his own parents.
More than 20 years ago, the Supreme Court of Canada made clear that it is a crime for parents to use corporal punishment on a teenager because of the inherent physical and psychological harm caused to teenagers by such conduct:
Quote:
"...s. 43 exempts from criminal sanction only minor corrective force of a transitory and trifling nature. On the basis of current expert consensus, it does not apply to corporal punishment of children under two or teenagers. Degrading, inhuman or harmful conduct is not protected."
|
and
Quote:
"...current expert consensus indicates that corporal punishment of teenagers creates a serious risk of psychological harm: employing it would thus be unreasonable."
|
https://decisions.scc-csc.ca/scc-csc.../2115/index.do
With all due respect, which is really none at this point, the Premier cannot allow her highest-ranking staff members to overtly encourage parents to commit domestic violence against their kids and then pretend that is ok because he said sorry.
And if anyone doubts that corporal punishment of a teenager does in fact lead to criminal assault convictions in Alberta here is an example from a spanking of a 14 year old (albeit using a belt):
https://www.canlii.org/en/ab/abca/do...2012abca6.html
Here is an example from a single slap to the face:
https://www.canlii.org/en/ab/abpc/do...19abpc180.html
By immediately firing McAllister and doing so by explaining to all parents in Alberta that corporal punishment of a teenager in a demeaning manner such as "bending over your knee" is a criminal offence, the Premier could make clear no such conduct is acceptable in Alberta.
By not even acknowledging the seriousness of the issue and immediately excusing it by there being zero consequences for the high-ranking staff member, the Premier seriously risks being seen to endorse and encourage domestic violence and the use of violence to suppress speech you do not like.
The fact that not a single member of the panel got up and walked out in the moment - or has yet resigned - is shameful and alarming.
In my personal opinion this should not be let go and Albertans and all Canadians really should voice their concerns directly to the office of the Premier of Alberta.

McAllister was a one-term Wildrose MLA before the disastrous crossing over to the PCs alongside Danielle Smith.

Lol. You think the right wing play by any rules? Did you see the US supreme court saying that precedents don't matter?
Like I appreciate the post but it's just amusing.

This story has gained a lot of traction over the last several hours. I’ve seen it plastered all over social media today, including the kid’s response from Reddit. I don’t think this is gonna just go away like Smith wants.
Also, the press needs to do their job and really hold the UCP’s feet to the fire on this one.
