IDK, I think you need to figure out how to build a championship team without trying to build an all star team with your top 4 d-men. At least in a salary cap league.

I don't see the Flames moving Hamilton after giving up those picks and signing him long term... I get the feeling they wouldn't make that move.
And I think he has a lot of long term, untapped potential. I wouldn't trade him for Hamonic either.
You saying you would? Would be interesting to hear everyone's thoughts on that here, as that is a lot closer to what the ask would be I suspect.

I'd trade Hamilton for Hamonic straight up.
Hamilton is maybe a better player but Hamonic is on a better contract and more what the Flames need. Also, if the Flames don't get him someone in the west will.

Wait, what? You think Hamilton is better, but Hamonic is on a better contract, so you trade Hamilton because you don't want someone else to get Hamonic, a player not as good as Hamilton? I guess we better trade for Kessel, because Johnny is going to have a very expensive contract, and even though he is a better player than Kessel, we don't want anyone getting Kessel who we might compete against, because he'll be on a cheaper contract.

Mind Bottling to trade Hamilton.
Like, why? I, too, see the holes in his game but come on the guy's a 22 year old top 4 defender.
Hamilton at 22 is what I wished Brodie was at 22.

Hell I would have wished that Brodie would have been a good offensive 40 pt player once he was fully developed when watching him at 22, let alone actually being that good while still only being 22.

I don't think we really need to worry about protecting more than 4 forwards. I'd much rather have Hamonic than Frolik/Colborne/Bouma (assuming the obvious 3 + Backlund are protected)...

Couldn't disagree more. I take the better, younger Dman with the way higher ceiling all day everyday

I don't think we want to tie up that kind of money with a Harmonic back there yet. Get rid of Wideman, and have 3 cheap on the back end with the likes of Jokipakka, Naladal and England/Wotherspoon and let's see if some of our guys might earn a spot. And yes sorry about everyone's name spelt incorrectly

I for one am of the opinion the Flames do not need Hamonic. The Flames D corps is set up nicely for 4 years. If the Flames are going out and spending assets on anything it is goaltending and RW as priority, or at least that is my hope.
Hamonic is a good player no doubt. But let another team pay the price. Flames don't need to or have to.

The Edmonton hype machine is in full force driving up the price on hamonic. I like it, he is not as good as people are being led to believe

If Hamonic came to Calgary he would likely be the #4 Dman on the Flames but in Edmonton he is the clear cut #1 by a mile

Fair enough. Great points. I'd take the the 25 year old bonecrusher over the 22 year old offensive specialist all day every day.
I would also say that Kopitar, Getzlaf, Kane, Thornton etc. would agree with you and prefer that the Flames stay soft. It's nice to play against players who are nice.
Hamonic is the closest U30 thing in the league there is to 2006 Robyn Regehr. He plays smart. He hits. He hits to hurt. He can play top 2 minutes. He can win games.
Giordano, Gaudreau, Monahan, Brodie, Hamilton is a small and soft core. Great players that nobody is afraid of.

Kulak and Spoon are close to being NHL ready in terms of quality bottom pairing Dmen with upside.
This deal gives Snow everything he wants.
If people are thinking a one for one swap, you have to consider the return would be derwhelming.
Sure, a team may send a quality Dman, but likely it would be either an inferior Dman making about the same money as Hamonic or a equal or better Dman with as much or more upside that is likely going to cost Snow more in terms of cap hit (Trouba), or assets (due to Hamonic wanting out).
|
Hamonic's value is likely between that of Dougie Hamilton and TJ Brodie, would you move Hamilton for that package? I'm thinking not and the Islanders wouldn't even consider such an offer for Hamonic because it is absolutely brutal for them.

He wouldn't be a #1 for long anywhere, He's a solid 3-4 and good on the PK but watching for a few games this year he's really no better than Jokipakka on the Flames because he wouldn't crack the top 3 in a million years.
His contract of almost $5m for the next 4 years is huge over pay for what he brings, I actually hope the Oilers overpay in a trade for him.

Either you haven't watched him much or glue is a terrible drug for you to sniff, unless your talking straight salarie, Hamonic in no way is close to those two let alone between them.
