That is weird, I thought the league tried to even up these back to back games over the season. Younger teams like the Flames do well on back to backs. But an older team like Detroit is ripe for the pickings on back to backs.

The Flames sucked in the 2nd period and 3rd period we were playing pretty defensively...so it was more a function of the team than the fans I'd say.

I agree fully but I would like to know the thought process around not rewarding a penalty shot. That is as clear as it gets.

It makes you wonder if the ref in that moment recognizes that the score is 2-1 Flames and another goal virtually puts the game away with that being Johnny on a breakaway, thus awarding a penalty instead thinking the Wings have a better chance at killing a PP than a Johnny penalty shot.

The point is getting the call right, especially the obvious ones, that isn't a 50/50 call. Granted we won but imagine the Wings won in OT after tying it late. It would be far worse.

Kings play Calgary three more times, twice of which they play in Edmonton first. There's no conspiracy here.

I thought I saw somewhere previously where someone put up a chart where the Oilers had the most games against back to back teams. Might be wrong though

Eventually a couple of expansion teams will be added which will nestle the Oilers into 16th.

I thought this season the number of teams playing the second of a back-to-back in Edmonton was indeed more. No conspiracy, I agree, but that doesn't mean it isn't unbalanced this year.

The Oilers, by far, get the most teams playing the second of a back to back in the schedule this year. Plus I believe very rarely do they have to play a rested team when they are playing their second game of a back to back.

Here is an article from the summer breaking the "tired" and "rested" games down.

Based on the information above, the Edmonton Oilers have a distinct advantage over the rest of the NHL. They will skate rested against a tired opponent 19 times over the course of the season. On the flip side, they’ll only face a rested opponent while they’re tired eight times.

Could one blame the NHL in trying to get the Oilers to not pick first overall again? I'm sure they're thinking Jesus what does it take...

It is so much more fun seeing GG with the epic celebrations instead of the emotionless void of earlier this season.

Indeed. But celebrations of this nature from a coach are completely inappropriate in October and November.

I went through the schedule for Edmonton and Calgary.

For November, Dallas and NY Rangers came through Calgary first and the next night in Edmonton. Edmonton won both games.

For December, Anaheim in Edmonton the first night and then Calgary the next night. Calgary destroyed Anaheim. Winnipeg in Calgary before playing the next night in Edmonton. Edmonton won.

For January, San Jose, New Jersey and Minnesota played in Edmonton and then the next night in Calgary. Calgary beat San Jose and Minnesota but lost to New Jersey. Florida and Nashvilled played in Calgary and Edmonton the next night. Edmonton beat Florida and loss to Nashville in OT.

For February, Arizona and Philadelphia played in Calgary and then Edmonton the next night. Edmonton won both games.

In March, LA Kings and San Jose will play in Edmonton and Calgary the next night. Detroit, Boston and LA Kings will play in Calgary and then Edmonton the next night.

In April, Anaheim will play in Edmonton and the following night in Calgary.

Edmonton will have played the opposition on the second night of the back-to-back 10 times and Calgary 7 times this year. In the first 7 times Edmonton have played the opposition on the second night they have 13 of a possible 14 points. In four opportunities Calgary have 6 of a possible 8 points.

Edmonton by far has the advantage. Wideman effect?
