I was not able to make my peace in the "Tank this coming season" thread, so I will do it here, the reason I advocate tanking this coming season is because we are not a team that are going to be Stanley Cup Contenders next season, if we compare the Calgary Flames to the top teams in league and how the Flames stack up against them, the Flames not stack up very well, can the Flames win in a 7 game against one of the top teams in league(please be honest, when answering this question), all I am saying is that we are not ready to take the next step just yet, so why not stack up on good young talent? The Winnipeg Jets are stacked with good young players(Connor, Elhers, 2nd pick Laine and some I may be missing), I am not troll, I am just stating the truth, the Calgary Flames has some holes, that need to be filled before the Flames become contenders.

Of course Laine would be huge for us. He would also be huge for them.
But why do they want to trade down? I'm still not sure why they would entertain that scenario.

When I talked to Brad Treliving on Friday, he said they had a ledge after three and a ledge after six. They will be content with 6th pick

Gotta go with BPA, regardless of the position. Tkachuk or Dubois would be terrific, but if the BPA is Chychrun or Juolevi, then you take him.

Draft Pick

My NHL 16 homer trade of the day: 6th + Wideman (+ if necessary spare parts or round 3+ pick) for Oilers 4th
Oilers get a defenceman for the present and for the future. We take Dubois plus salary cap room.

Doesn't look like they're going to be moving down, although things can change.

Exactly they are not trading it to Calgary for #6 and bunch of late 1sts and 2nd. Laine is a franchise player, he ain't getting traded.

So you're using a guy like Connor for an example. Where was he drafted? You don't need to have a top 3 pick to build a solid team.
And just no to tanking.......we're not the Oilers.

The Jets have prospect depth though. It's the high-end players that they need. I don't think they are in the position to be looking at moving down.

Depends on what they recoup.
The 6th pick will still net them a great player. Another pick like the (possible) Dallas 1st, or even our 2nd, is another bullet in the chamber, and add on top of that a high end prospect like Mangiapane, or Hickey, or Andersson and you've got yourself a good stable of players. All for 1 guy.

Meh.
I guess I'm just annoyed. We never get the breaks in these types of situations.

Flames two ledges?
First ledge - Matthews, Laine, Puljujarvi
Second ledge - Dubois, Tkachuk, ??????
Who's the 6th player? A Dman? A surprise forward? Nylander?

To those wanting to trade down, when was the last time that worked out for any team in the salary cap era, let alone the Flames (yes I know the Brodeur pick prior to the salary cap)? The last first round pick that was traded down was for Jankowski. Even if he turns out and becomes better than Girgensons, it was a poor choice at the time where the organization was.
It would be a poor decision as the top 6 guys have a good chance to play in the NHL next year. You have to select BPA period.

Jost is probably the most underrated of the players in the top 12.
Nylander/Brown/Jost are the three likeliest ones.
