After what happened in the Leafs-Preds game, I really wanted to post this, but not if we lost. So, now that we've won:

Where is the Calgary is no good thread? Seriously, the Flames haven't made the playoffs since the 2008-2009 season. It's not like your team is making the playoffs every year. You shouldn't rag on other fanbases for sucking when your own team actually sucks quite a bit as well.

That's interesting, as the shootout didn't come into existence until 2005-06

I love Backlund and the player he has become, and it's still early in his career, but Markus Granlund might be what we thought we were getting with Backlund.

And to think a couple years ago we seemed utterly depleted in talent down the middle..

Seriously most teams in the Flames place, being down 2 goals going into the third, playing the creme de la creme of the NHL, with a significant part of your veteran group out with injuries, would have just gone through the motions and mailed in the third.
But not these guys. With conditioning and belief in themselves they just never quit. You just have to love these guys and their attitude and their effort.

That's correct. The OT game in Philly was won by Dean McCammond on a toe drag goal. That truly was a "starting to come together Pepper" moment.

The one thing that strikes me as curious is that the players celebrate their goals well - no showboating, just happiness. Except in the shootout. Watch them - Johnny and Monny both score, give a little nod, next to no grin, do the fist bump thing, then back to business until the job is done. And when the job is done - then the fun (including the #hillerhop!).
Shows a sense of balance - and I really like that. I believe that must come from coaching.

What a game! I think seeing that live just converted my GF into a full-on hockey fan. And a Flames fan!
Also. Props to the guy in the Levante Szuper jersey!

If Markus somehow makes Backlund expendable, just by being That good, then it can only mean great things for us. When have we ever had such an excess of assets that we could spare a great centerman to help strengthen another area?
(big Backlund fan though, just saying)

Johnny had but one assist but I think this may have been his best game. He looked unstoppable in OT. The shots of him on the bench - he looked so pumped.

Flames now have the best goal differential in the Pacific Division, and the best goal differential among all the Canadian based franchises.
Calgary (+10)
Montreal (+4)
Ottawa (+2)
Vancouver (+1)
Toronto (-2)
Winnipeg (-3)
Edmonton (-16) <--NO GOOD

I have to think that is Hartley not giving them the option of feeling defeated. I'm sure Gio had something to say also.
