He was not bad in Columbus. I would say he was definitely under the radar. But now that he's making $4.5 million he's going to be very overrated.

He was ok one season in CBJ, when he was being dragged around by Fedor Tyutin.

He has since been in and out of the line up as a 6th Dman. He wasn't underrated, he was just not very good.

MacT must have Nikitin confused with Niskanen.

The only one I could find was from No Good Nation.com and CP ###### hashtags once you save.

I now see why his backward skating was as fast as his forward skating.

Eakins hasn't exactly enamoured himself to the Eastern Europeans on the team with most of them choosing to go back to Europe rather than play another year under him and Yakupov also preferring not to play for him. Wonder how long it takes before he and Nikitin develop a frosty relationship?

I wonder if this signing makes Edmonton believe they don't need another defenceman? Probably not, but one can hope.

Agreed. Not sure if his english is good enough to correctly understand the 'roll over doggie' drill

Not sure any of the players really had the option to stay in Edmonton. Maybe Horak but he's a fringe NHL'er at best so no guarantee he would have been in Edmonton anyway. Grebeshkov, Eager, Belov - none of them were likely to be invited back (maybe Belov in a 6-8 role).

Same story over and over...

Bring in a guy, put him in a no-win situation for a while, let the hate grow in the fanbase until everyone wants him gone, run him out of town (or have him choose to leave), then justify it with the 'he sucked anyways' comments.

Fully expect the same scenario with Nikitin in a year or two.

'Fringe NHL'er' is The Hockey News' description of the Edmonton Oilers' roster.

Management took a Stanley Cup finals team (that they stumbled onto literally by accident) and systematically reduced it to nothing. If you lose every trade you make, even by a small margin, there can be no other result. And we have already seen the list of free agent signing since 2007.

It's like the paperclip to the house thing, but in reverse.

This will likely be Klefbom's fate in a few years as well.

Oops thought was posting in the waiver thread, my bad.

Didn't dig it up, someone posted it in another thread and was reading it and thought I was still in the waiver wire thread when I posted, my apologies.
