Hope this thread isn't too far gone for me to bump, but I heard a song from my past today that has always given me goosebumps, and still does. Great lyrics, awesome vocals and the full orchestra in the background definitely puts this one as one of my all-time favorites.

The first two literally stopped time for me, it all just stopped
this one is just a brilliant remix that never tires
this one is a brilliantly rendered live piece, which resonates even more for me because I watched it live
I love Sheryl Crow, she's a brilliant songwriter and The Globe Sessions was the soundtrack of my divorce, it got me through some really bad patches. She's also brilliant live, this is an amazing version of Home, Peter Stroud's slide work is the perfect accompaniment
BTW - "Time to Say Goodbye" by Bocelli and Brightman is a wonderful song. I heard somewhere that it was the top selling single world-wide in 1997. That despite not getting much play in North America. It was #1 in Austria, #1 in Germany, #1 in Ireland, #1 in Switzerland, hit #2 in England....
It amazes me how under-appreciated Brightman is in North America.
I saw these guys live in the early 70s. The video is no screaming hell but the song is still great and they were a great live act.
Here goes my 2nd shot at embedding.
Keeping it simple and narrowing it down to one song I would have to say Strawberry Fields Forever by the Beatles.
Hearing that song transformed music for me when I was an adolescent. Before then music was what you heard on the radio, sang along to with your friends, and then disposed of when the next big hit came along. After hearing that song, music became a personal experience. I just wanted to squirrel away and listen to it alone along with the other Beatles songs I was discovering. I developed a voracious appetite for new and interesting stuff, from various decades, that appealed to me without regard to whether my friends were listening to the same thing.
I think that's what makes a song special, one that helps to develop your own personal tastes and identity. I wouldn't say it cracks my list of favourite songs now but as a music lover I will always appreciate the gateway it opened in my life.
