... well, it was during Covid, but there were relatively few restrictions on entering the Saddledome and buying pretty much anything in the building for large swaths of the 2021–22 season and pretty much all of 2022–23. I'd be shocked if they didn't turn a pretty substantial profit, honestly.

What a turn of events over the last 20 years for this team. The senators used to be marketed as a tax shelter because they lost so much money. Buy a partnership interest, and you too could get an accelerated tax write-off by using the losses against your other income.

I’m no economist or corporate tax account but it looks like they also have the Flames at -39 mil for 2021. That would seem to support your stance about it being a poor franchise. That 41 mil looks to be an outlier not the norm.
