That's not a crazy amount for a top coach.
Friedman speculated that Tippet just signed for $3.5M. Hartley was $2M I think.

It's not my money, so I say offer him more and get it done.

Odd that Calgary isn't being mentioned much if at all with this lately. Just Ottawa and Minnesota

It doesn't surprise me if you take Burke at face value when he stated that Treliving will be in Russia, and that the Flames weren't all that worried about some of the available coaches getting hired between now and the draft - and even went as far to state that having someone in place by the draft was imperative.
It seems that Boudreau was not much of a consideration to begin with, though how much of that is just a smoke-screen is up in the air. I actually don't think the Flames will be linked to any serious rumor (pure speculation excluded) until they are actually close to signing someone.

No rumours of Flames interest of yet? Very odd. Treliving said missing the playoffs was considered failure and a head coach is out there that has made a career of making the playoffs, winning divisions, and presidents trophies and there's no interest? I get that Treliving is looking for a fit with his philosophy but as a Flames fan I'm more interested in winning than Treliving having a head coach that he can sit and have a coffee with on his day off and talk about all the things they have in common.

You have to think that they had someone or a couple someone's in mind. They didn't fire Hartley with the thought "well, something will come along". I am starting to wonder if they are actually waiting out DS's contract. He and Burke have much man love for each other, and he does fit the profile of what they want. And I guess Darryl might actually seem like a softie after Hartley. Otherwise, if it's not Gabby...

Have the Wild even actually fired Torchetti yet? Or was he just considered interim, so it's assumed he won't be back at this point?

I 100% agree - I do think that the Flames do in fact have someone in mind, and it probably isn't any of the names that have been passed around in the media lately (or maybe it is, but is someone that isn't currently interviewing and is currently under contract, like one of the current assistant coaches around the league).
If it is DS, well... count me in as someone who feels relieved.
As for the Boudreau to the Wild tweet by Weekes - I think that it may mean Hartley ends up in Ottawa then.
Friedman was on the fan 960 stating that Murray loved Hartley a lot, and he was a finalist on one of Murray's hirings. Murray apparently told Friedman that he regretted not going with Hartley. Now he isn't making the decisions in Ottawa any longer, but....

There are a number of good candidates out there. Not concerned that Boudreau opted to go elsewhere.

From my understanding, he was still interim. It will be up to Boudreau now (I assume) to make the decision on whether Torchetti is retained or not - I don't think after chasing Boudreau like this and paying him this amount of money that they will put a restriction on who is on his staff. Will be interesting to see what happens with Torchetti, however.

If we get Sutter some how I will be happy, but have to say that I am disapointed if we did miss out on Boudreau

Really when you look at the last two Wild head coaches this is a major upgrade for them. I'm not a fan of that roster as it has some good pieces but I just don't see the talent to win the Cup. At the very least the Wild will be very good in the regular season.
This has to be a major disappointment for Ottawa given the fit of his family there and all. Stuff like this happens when your owner is a buffoon. I imagine Hartley rumours will start surfacing soon.
As for the Flames it sounds like they were never really interested which is kind of a shame. Treliving better get this right as if his new guy bombs and the Wild go on to bigger and better things it's going to be egg on his face.
