No chance the arena and football stadium would be combined in the same building? I'd hate to see it where they pull across giant black curtains for the hockey set-up.

Has King or anyone in the organization ever hinted at MLS aspirations? Because it sucks to have a stadium that gets 9 games.

Well, went with a friend to an event before the game today, and KK popped by. Notes from our question/answer session were (and pardon the paraphrasing):

- new location will be downtown
- will have LRT station access
- will be more accessible than existing location
- when asked if it would be a joint football/hockey solution, he said "I wouldn't bet against it..."
- he also referenced the architectural uniqueness of the Native American museum in Winnipeg and said that they were attempting to come up with something equally impressive

There was more, but those were the relevant hilights.

The only way the Saddledome would get saved is to have it re-purposed, which would involve heritage designation and a lot of public money and likely a private developer. What happened with Maple Leaf Gardens is pretty cool

So these things can be effectively re-purposed if the money and will is there. Convention space, movie theatres, retail etc. However you're talking about a couple Peace Bridges worth of $ in order to save the outside of an obsolete building.

This is pretty rough, I made it in about 1 minute. For a long time the speculation has been that they are planning something like this .

(If they make the stadium and the rink part of the same complex).
That would have allot of logistics advantages for shared front office, and back of house event staff.

But just looking at this picture, you would think it would be better for the customer to put the parking lot between the two buildings.

I wouldn't be surprised if an arena and a football stadium are joined in some sort of atrium. Makes a lot of sense.

I'm not sure that it makes a lot of sense to have a lot of the parking above ground.

If you want to optimize the land for field houses, convention centres, bars, restaurants, condos, hotels, etc, you put the parking lot(s) underground

It would make sense to have underground parking, but If we have heard right and it will be in this location. the project would include

A new 20,000 seat arena
A New 40,000 Partly covered out door stadium
A Major Condo/Hotel development
Probably a practice rink
I'm sure the stamps would like to have practice field squeezed into the property somewhere.

Plus when the finally announce this, they will be asking tax payers for
the plus 15,
to move Bow trail,
to rebuild the 14th interchange,
and for major upgrades to crowchild.

I'm not sure there will be any money left to do anything other than squeeze every parking spot you can out of the land, without building up or down.

I'm guessing the capacity of the new arena will be less that what we have now.

Right around the 18,000 mark is what's been speculated.

Far larger 100 section, way more suites, far fewer 300 level seats.

I also wouldn't be surprised if there were personal seat licenses this go around.

Around 18,000 seems to be the sweetspot for new arenas. I couldn't see the football stadium seating 40,000 but I guess it depends on what their aspirations are (Olympics, etc.)

Wouldn't pretty much every downtown underground parkade have the same circumstances?

The stadium will probably be about the same as McMahon, 30-35,000 for regular events, expandable to 45-50,000 for big events like the Grey Cup or Heritage Classic.

Expansion is hard to do with a covered or even partially covered stadium that has seats all around.
